REESE N. COLE PASSES AWAY

Captain Reese Newport Cole, well known resident of Harmar Hill, died Monday 
afternoon at 2:15 o'clock at his home following an illness of several months 
duration.  Sometime ago he suffered a paraleytic stroke from which he never 
recovered.  Captain Cole was past 92 years old and had been a resident of the 
Highland farm west of Harmar Hill for over 59 years.

Captain Cole was born at Gallipolis December 27th, 1839 and at an early age 
and he started to follow the river.  For many years he served as a clerk and 
later became a captain.  He was captain of the gunboat "Silver Lake" and saw 
service during the Civil War on the Cumberland River.

Capt. Cole was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 1 F. & A. M.  He was also a 
member of the First Congretional church.  He was a prominent orchard man in 
this section.

He was a member of one of the pioneer families, being a direct decendent of 
James Cole, of Plymouth, Mass.

He is survived by the following children:  Reese Herbert Cole, Fern Bank, 
Cincinnati, Marshall Grasson Cole, Huntington, W. Va., Chester Dyar Cole, 
Marietta, Joseph Dyar Cole, Charleston, W.Va., Caro Cole Bukey, El Paso, Tex., 
Stella Cole McNeal, Charleston, W. Va., Emma Cole Cram, Marietta, and a number 
of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
