Marietta Times, Thursday, August 20, 1874, pg. 3:
PINKERTON - In Union Township, August 12th, 1874, at quarter past five, P.M.:, 
Mr. James Pinkerton Sr., of lung disease, aged 70 years and 28 days.

The deceased was born in Allegheny County, PA., and removed to Ohio twenty 
eight years ago.  He was a consistent and steadfast Democrat, a good citizen 
and neighbor, and he leaves a large family and many friends to mourn his 
loss.  His funeral was largely attended.
