Reid, an old resident of this county died suddenly at his home six miles southeast of town, Tuesday morning. Mr. Reid had been ailing for a long time but his death was very sudden and so far as any immediate fears were concerned, was unexpected. Mr. Reid has been here since the opening of old Oklahoma and was a highly respected citizen." El Reno News Nov. 2, 1899 El Reno Democrat Thursday November 9, 1899 Obituary "William Reed, a well known citizen of Canadian County, died suddenly of heart disease at his home, five miles east of El Reno, Oct. 31. He was a native of Ohio, where he resided until the opening of Oklahoma, ten years ago, since which time he has resided here. He leaves seven children, four daughters and three sons, all of whom were present at the funeral, which took place Nov. 1. A large concourse of friends and neighbors were present. Mr. Reed will be greatly missed for he was beloved by all who knew him. The Golden Rule was the rule of his life, a humanitarian, he had great sympathy for sufferers and all in affliction. Wm. Reed was an honest man, a man of veracity, whose word was as good as his note. He was laid to rest beside his wife, who died ten years ago. Peace to his ashes." El Reno Democrat, Nov. 9, 1899 El Reno Globe Friday November 3, 1899 "Wm. Reed, whose home is about five miles east of this city, died suddenly Monday morning of heart disease. He was about 75 years old and was a respected citizen. He leaves a grown family of children most of whom live in this county." El Reno Globe, Nov. 3, 1899 Additional Comments: The family surname has alternated between Reid and Reed. His death date is listed differently in his will: It is written as October 10 and October 30, 1899 in the will. His wife was Mary A. Brabham. Daughter of Walter Brabham and Maria Davis. She died very shortly after arriving in Oklahoma. They are buried together in El Reno Cemetery, El Reno, OK. They were married on December 31, 1865 in Washington Co., Ohio. Walter Brabham was a prominent attorney and former prosecuting attorney in Marietta, OH. His children were: George Hamilton, Mary M., Walter Burr, Sarah Jane, Ella Francis, Laura Elizabeth, William W., and Unnamed Infant.
