Death was due to heart trouble. He was born in Noble County on September 15, 1840. He moved to Marietta about three years ago from Heslop, where he was engaged in farming and oil business. The deceased is survived by his wife and the following children: Clarence E., and Alexander, of Fifteen, and Angie E., of Marietta. Two sisters also survive. Funeral services will be held from the home Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock and burial will be made at Tunnel. Additional Comments: Joseph Smith was the son of Thomas G. Smith and Elizabeth Cecil (Sissell). He was married first to Catherine M. Smith and 2nd to Mrs. Lydia A. Dix Hendershot. The newspaper article has an error. It announces the death of Joseph Smith and then writes John Smith. Joseph spent time in Liberty Twp., Lawrence Twp., and Marietta. His children were: Emmet W., Clarenc E., Angie E., (Z.) Daney, Alexander D., and Annie B. He is also the nephew of Martha Cecil (Sissell) whom he was the executor of her will.
