Smith Loses his Life in a Runaway on a Country Road Saturday Afternoon A runaway which resulted in the death of an aged man occurred on the road between Gravel Bank and Tunnel, about 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon. The victim of the sad accident was Mr. Thomas G. Smith, who lives a short distance on the other side of Tunnel. Mr. Smith was riding behind a team of horses. They took fright and started to run. The man was thrown from the vehicle and received very grave injuries. He survived for about eight hours and death occurred at 12:15 o'clock Saturday night. The deceased was 85 years, 2 months, 7 days of age. He leaves three sons and four daughters. Funeral services were held Monday afternoo at 2 o'clock, at the home of his son, Mr. John Smith. Additional Comments: Newspaper made a mistake in the obituary. They have written "John G. Smith" when in fact it is Thomas G. Smith. Thomas G. Smith was the son of the Rev. Joseph Junior Smith and Hannah Greene. His family moved to Ohio very early from Chester Co., PA. The family lived in Monroe Co., Morgan Co., and Noble Co. Rev Joseph was born in England and Hannah was born in PA. His brothers and sisters were: John Smith, Joseph Smith, and Margaret Smith. Thomas G. married first Elizabeth Cecil (Sissell) and 2nd to Mrs. Martha Dye. Children of Thomas G. and Elizabeth were: Lenox, Joseph, Rebecca, Margaret, John, Hannah, and Martha Elizabeth.
