He was born Sept. 21, 1811 in Niederkerchen, in a portion of country then belonging to France but now to Germany and is known as Rhein Bavaria. He was dedicated to the Lord by holy baptism in infancy; when a young man he was religiously educated and by confirmation admitted to full membership to the German Reformed Church to which he faithfully adhered (?) until death. He was married to Miss Catherine Brown on March 30th, 1837, and with his then young wife emigrated to the United States of America in the same year and lived at ? about five years in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, then came to Williams county. Their marriage was blessed with 9 children of which 5 died as well as his wife some years ago, and 4 children are yet living and ? grandchildren and ? greatgrandchildren to ? mourn the loss of their beloved father and grandfather. His age was 84 years, 6 months, 4 days. The funeral took place on Thursday ?, the 28th and was well attended. Rev. A. M. ? of ?, O. His text was 1 Thess 4 14 (?). Those who believe in Christ ? that will bring with him. The remains were deposited in a cemetery a little east of his residence. (poem at bottom illegible)
