At the proper age he was instructed in the state church of Germany and when 14 years old was admitted to communicant membership in the Lutheran church. In 1862 he was united in marriage to Barbara Hennes. To them were born 10 children, 4 of whom have already been called to eternity. In 1883 the deceased with his family migrated to America, settling down on a farm 3 1/2 miles south and west of Edon where he remained to the day of his death. It was here that he experienced his share of the settler's life. It was on this farm that he saw his children grow up. It was here also that his wife in 1901 was called from his side by death. The following year he was married to Mrs. Caroline Lump, who survives him. About 6 or 7 years ago he became afflicted with asthma, and his breathing difficulties served considerably to bind him to the house. He seems not to have left home except in cases on necessity pr unless he was urged to do so. On May 10, while returning from a visit in he dark, he was thrown from his buggy and injured and was compelled to lie on the ground for several hours of a cold night before help arrived. The pain caused by the fall and the exposure, the numbness of his body together with his breathing difficulties caused him considerable misery, yet it seemed as though he would recover, when pneumonia set in and rapidly carried him toward his grave. He died on Thursday, May 22, at 6:30 in the morning. He reached the age of 73 years, 7 months, and 29 days. He is survived by his second wife, 4 sons, and 2 daughters, a great many grandchildren and many other relatives. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 24, from the Lutheran church. Interment was made in Edon cemetery. Found in Edon Commercial, Edon, Ohio, Friday, May 30, 1913. ==== OH-FOOTSTEPS Mailing List ====
