Perrysburg Journal. Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Feb 2, 1906. Page 1. February 2, 1906 John Holliger pleasantly celebrated his ninetieth birthday anniversary Saturday, by entertaining relatives at his home. About thirty were present at this delightful family gathering and a birthday dinner was served. Those present were Dr. F.E. Zumstein and family, Miss Minnie Wisner of Detroit; F. Holliger and wife, J. McInnis and wife, Mmes. R. Negele, R. Reutinger, George Cornelius, George Roether and Miss Margaret Turner of Toledo; Rev, E.A. Tovey and wife, George Kemp and family, R. Danz and family and Mrs. Samuel Fahrer. John Holliger and wife located in Perrysburg in 1854. The pioneers of the Maumee Valley are each year becoming fewer; old age is creeping up on those who are left, and it is indeed a privilege to know one of these, and to hear from his own lips, stories of those earlier days. Mr. Holliger has lived a life of usefulness and is well preserved for his years. He is widely and favorably known and has set an example for the rising generation, of sobriety, honesty, and industry. He is a Christian man who shows forth his belief in his daily life. In the pioneer days his home was a haven of rest to emigrants; his purse was always open to the needs of the poor, and now in his old age with his estimable wife, he is enjoying the fruits of his labors. John Holliger and wife celebrated their golden wedding in 1901 and their relatives took advantage of that happy event to demonstrate the affection in which this worthy couple is held.
