Died.

	On the 2nd of January, at his residence, in Pemberville, Wood County, 
Ohio, of typhoid pneumonia, Horatio N. Alexander, aged 61 years.

	[Communicated]

	The deceased was a native of England, where his youth and early manhood 
were spent.  He emigrated to this country in 1835, and settled in this county, 
making him one of its earliest residents.  He was the possessor of much native 
talent, which, with his superior education, made him a very useful citizen, and 
one upon whose judgement and good business qualities, his neighbors have long 
depended.  He was of a social, and cheerful disposition, which, with his 
integrity of character, greatly endeared him to his friends; and probably, no 
one would have been more missed than he, in the community in which he resided.  
He was not a member of any religious body, but may we not hope that the heart 
which was ever open to the cry of distress, and the hand that withheld not from 
the needy of that which God had given him, may meet with mercy from that Being, 
whose "tender mercy and loving kindness is over all his creatures?"

	Thus they leave us; our fathers and our mothers fall before the hand of 
the Destroyer, and their places are left vacant.  The question comes home to us 
in fearful force - are we able and willing to discharge the duties they have so 
long and so faithfully discharged in more trying times than these?  God help us 
so to do.
