Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Jan 4, 1865, p. 3. In Memoriam. It will be recollected that Byron C. Baldwin, of Company A., 100th O.V.I., was killed in one of the recent battles before Nashville, while carrying the colors of his regiment. We gladly publish the following lines, dedicated to his memory: [For the Perrysburg Journal.] Another brave soldier has gone to his grave - He went in honor, his country to save; He fell while bearing our flag at his side, And on those colors he manfully died. In the strife for his country he showed a brave heart- Ever at his post, bravely acting his part; In the heat of the battle our banner he bore, And he loosed not his hold when he entered Death's shore. His wife will not cherish his mem'ry alone - There are others to mourn the departed and gone, Who heard his last wish for his wife at his side, To mingle a tear with Life's ebbing tide. He has fought the good fight and is resting above- His comrades all loved him and by him were loved; His name is still cherished, though he's present no more, When the drum beats to roll-call his comrades of yore. Rest from thy labors, thy warfare is o'er, And thou art at rest on Canan's fair shore; Rest on, we'd not call thee hither again, To this world e'er so full of sorrow and pain.
