Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Nov 12, 1862, p. 3. DIED. on the 19th of August, 1862, of chronic diarrhea, David Brown, of the 67th Ohio Regiment. Obituary - The following, taken from a letter addressed to the father of the subject of this notice, by W.W. Much, Hospital Chaplain, will furnish all that can be known respecting his death: "Dear Sir: This letter is to convey to you the sad news of your loss in the death of David Brown, Company H, 67th Ohio Volunteers, August 19, 1862, at 5 o'clock a.m. of chronic diarrhea. His His [sic] death was so unexpected to us all, we have but few particulars of his case to relate. He told me, the last time I saw him, he did not want anything so much as to go home. He said he felt that his peace was made with God, and that he could trust all to the keeping of Jesus Christ." The following, also, from the captain of his company, bears honorable testimony to his conduct as a soldier: "The manner in which David conducted himself at the battle of Winchester, and subsequently, proved to my mind that he was endowed with true courage. He was among the foremost, and stood fearlessly out, defying the death-dealing missiles of the enemy. He did, indeed, display great bravery on that battle-field. Besides, he was possessed of a kind disposition, and with good grace and alacrity obeyed all the commands form his superior officers." This is high praise. It is enough. Who could have done more or better than he? TO know this, that a son has been faithful to the high trust committed to him in every duty, as a soldier, and that he died with a firm trust in the Savior of sinners, should take away all the bitterness of bereavement.
