Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. May 6, 1863, p. 3. DIED. AT the residence of her grandfather, Dea. John Wells, Kirtland, Lake County, Ohio, April 20, of scarlet fever, Emma Susan, second daughter of Charles F. and Emilie S. Button, aged 5 years and 5 days. Her father returned from New York on the evening of April 22, and attended the remains to his home in Bowling Green, Wood county, Ohio. Our darling little Emma can it be That we they face on earth no more may see? They smiles of love no more may answer ours, While thou'rt walking amid earth's sweetest flowers, An ardent lover of all beauteuous things, A glorious heaven in thine imaginings? It seems but yesterday to me she brought her little hand full of forget-me-nots, Arranged and rearranged them all with care, As quiet sat she on the threshold there, "I want to be an angel" sweetly sand, While echoes of her voice around us rang. Beside me hyacinths, one year ago, Half questioning she sat, while there so low, If she might pluck the flowers she loved so well, For flowers and music had a power to quell The rising sorrows of her childish hearth, And blunt the point of many an earthly dart. In yonder pearly gate I see her stand, Her hand clasped in her little brother's hand, While earthward she gazes and sweetly sings, (All answered now her childish questionings Of God, of Jesus, and of that pure clime Which she so loved to talk of oftentime,) "Behold us here two joyous angels stand; Oh! father, mother, come to the better land. "Oh, come, bring Mary, Freddie, baby too, We long to see our loved ones, one and all; From this bright shining shore your children call, Oh! love not earth too well -when called to go, We want to see you join the angel throng, We want you to sing the angels' song, We want you with your loving ones to stand, Crowns on your heads and harps within your hands."
