Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Mar 11, 1863, p. 3. DIED. From a wound which he received, January 2, 1863, at the battle of Murfreesboro, William A. Dauterman, aged 18 years, 5 months and 22 days. The deceased belonged to Co. C., 21st Regiment O.V.I., and was a son of T. Dauterman, of Portage Township, Wood County, Ohio. The funeral will be preached on next Sunday, 15th inst., at 2 o'clock P.M., in the M.E. Church, at Portage. The following touching tribute, from a sister of the deceased, we insert with pleasure: "Alas! he is gone! gone without a mother's fond farewell! gone without a parting kiss from the many who loved him! But he has gone to that God who doeth all things well. He fell at Murfreesboro, while bravely defending the cause he loved so well. How I remember his farewell words and tears, when last I saw him; and how fresh in my heart is that brother's love! He left us a hale, promising youth, and returns a lifeless corpse! No! it is only the garment he wore in life. William has gone to swell the number of that patriotic band who now look from Heaven's battlements upon our great army of brave men. Father! receive him to thy bosom, and save the Union for which he died! Our afflicted country! smile propitiously upon her and sustain those who are fighting her battles! May the flag of Peace and Union eventually triumph over every foe!"
