Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. May 24, 1867, p. 3. DIED. On Saturday, May 18, 1867, after a lingering illness, at his residence, in Webster Township, John Fenton, aged 74 years. In the death of Mr. Fenton, another of the pioneers of Wood County has passed away. The deceased emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland, in the year 1834, and cast his lot with the earlier settlers of this county. In common with others he was subjected to all the difficulties and privations consequent upon the early settlement of a new country. He lived to see these difficulties gradually overcome, and no one of our pioneers evinced a deeper interest in all improvements that would tend to the public interests of the county in which he lived. In the organization of Webster Township, he was elected the first Justice of the Peace. The deceased, throughout his residence in this county of nearly thirty-three years, has enjoyed the respect and esteem of all his neighbors and fellow citizens, and in his death we can truly say that the county has lost an influential and worthy citizen. He died a Christian in the full hope of atonement through the blood of Christ and a blissful immortality beyond the grave.
