Sad Suicide. Perrysburg Journal.  Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Aug 21, 1885.  Page 3.
On Sunday morning last the lifeless remains of Rudolph Mattias, aged 77 years, 
was found suspended to an apple tree near the residence of his son-in-law, 
Jacob Souder, in Lake township, with whom he made his home.  Mr. M. had a 
stroke of paralysis last fall which unbalanced his mind, and finally led to the 
rash act of suicide.  His relatives have the full sympathy of the community.
