Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Oct 14, 1863, p. 3. On Tuesday morning, September 22, 1863, William Philo was instantly killed by a collision of trains on the Dayton and Michigan Railroad. His age was 28 years. This is indeed, a heavy affliction upon his little family - a wife and child. Mr. Philo was a consistent and active member of the United Presbyterian Church, at Scotch Ridge, Wood county, Ohio. As a Christian, he was devoted to his Master's work, ready to participate in the Sabbath School instruction, and in the exercises of the social prayer meeting. He gave promise of much usefulness in the Lord's vineyard. As a husband and father, he was affectionate, and commenced the world with energy to make an Honest living. As a neighbor, he was kind, obliging, and peaceful. His career, which promised so well, in the mysterious providence of God, was suddenly terminated; but his manner of life gave evidence that he was not unprepared for the death through faith in the atoning blood of Jesus, and the sanctification of the Spirit. May his widow trust in God, who has promised to be a husband to the widow and a father to the fatherless, and who hath said, "I never will leave thee nor forsake thee."
