Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Mar 8, 1865, p. 3. Died. Jessie E. Smith, daughter of Addison Smith, Esq., departed this life on the 1st inst., aged 16 years and 6 months. The funeral obsequries [sic] were performed on the 2d, inst. by the Rev. G.A. Adams. Consumption, that fell destroyer, had for two years been slowly but surely leading the deceased to that gate which opens on eternity. During this long period of affliction, she manifested the utmost resignation, and in amiable meekness awaited the change. She has passed away, but the remembrance of her kind and loving spirit, will be ever dear to surviving friends. Before attaining the maturity of this earthly state, she has reached the nobler sphere of the angelic state; so life's blossoms fade away, only to bear the maturer fruit, of the heavenly land. "But though earth's fairest blossoms die, And all beneath the skies is vain, There is a brighter world on high, Beyond the reach of care and pain. "Then let the hope of joys to come Dispel our cares, and chase our fears; If God be ours we're trav'ling home, Though passing through a vale of tears."
