Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Sep 26, 1865, p. 3. Died. In Post Hospital, Huntsville, Alabama, September 6, 1864, of Typhoid- malarious Fever, Joseph Waggoner, of Co. G,m 189th O.V.I. One of his comrades thus writes of the deceased: The deceased was called suddenly away, but, in his last illness, he had the kind ministrations of brotherly affection and the love of his comrades. He is the only one out of seven brothers who has died in this war, and all have been, or are, in the service. He had the reputation of being one of the best soldiers in the 189th. He was never known to falter in his duty as a comrade, soldier, or friend. He was beloved by his companions in arms, and his witty, good humor made him a favorite with all. He met his fate as a soldier should - doing his duty - and his bereaved family may feel a melancholy satisfaction in known that living he was highly esteemed and dead his memory is cherished by his surviving fellow-soldiers. "He sleeps his last sleep, He has fought his last battle, No sound can awake him to glory again."
