Perrysburg, Wood County, Ohio. Feb 24, 1864, p. 3. DIED. In Oregon, Wood Co.., Ohio, January 18th, 1864, of Pulmonary Consumption, Mrs. Sophronia Wales, wife of Rev. 0. Wales, in the 30th year of her age, leaving a husband, three children and a large circle of friends and neighbors to mourn their irreparable loss; but though they mourn the loss of an affectionate companion, a faithful and loving mother, a kind and true friend, yet they mourn not as those who have no hope, for Sister Wales has lived the life of a Christian. AT the age of ten years, she joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and was a devoted follower of the Saviour for twenty years. She loved all the various means of grace, and was much attached in the Church of her choice. Her heart was in every enterprise that had for its object the glory of God and the good of soul. She could sacrifice her own comfort at any time for the happiness of others. As a neighbor, she was kind and true in every sense of the term. She was one of the few that always carried with her such an influence of heavenly grace as could not fail to benefit those around her. Those who knew her best loved her most. When it was evident that death was approaching, and she must bid adieu to her dear husband and children, whom she loved next to God, she was enabled to do so without a tear of sorrow. She then felt that she had in truth triumphed over the last enemy. From this time all was peace, and while anxious friends waited around her bed, to receive her parting blessing, she requested them to sing to her of Heaven; and almost with her last breath she said to her weeping companion, "Raise our children for Heaven and immortal glory," and as her children kissed her for the last time, she said, 'God bless my children," Again she said, "Meet me in Heaven," Her last words that could be understood, was, "There will be no sorry there, bless His holy name."
