Jacob Black, Sr. (1790-1875) was the son of Henry & Elizabeth Schwartz, and was born in Maryland. He served in the War of 1812 as a private in Capt. Gault?s Co. of the Maryland Militia, and was among the troops chosen to guard Washington, DC during the British siege in that war. After the war, he married Sarah Ocker (#2 below) in Frederick County, Maryland in October 1818. They had seven children, three of whom are buried in Bibler Cemetery: --- Elizabeth, born in Frederick County, Maryland after 1818; married Michael Brecht in Seneca County, Ohio in 1844 and had four children. I do not know her burial location. --- George, born in Frederick County, Maryland (#3 below) --- John, born in Maryland (#4 below) --- Jacob Jr., born in Seneca County, Ohio (#6 below) --- Henry, born in Seneca County, Ohio on September 6, 1830 --- Lewis, born in Seneca County, Ohio about 1831 --- Sarah, born in Seneca County, Ohio in April 1833 The birth locations of their children make it clear that Jacob Sr. and Sarah moved to northwestern Ohio from Maryland in the period between the end of 1826 and May 1828. Along with many other Maryland veterans of the War of 1812, it is likely that the Blacks moved to Ohio via an offer of land as reparation for Jacob?s military service. 2. Sarah Black (1800-1863) was the wife of Jacob Sr.; she was born in Frederick County, Maryland to Christian and Elisabeth Ocker. 3. George Black (1824-1862) was the eldest son of Jacob Sr. and Sarah Black. He was born in Frederick County, Maryland and moved with his family to Ohio as a young boy. He married Sovina Bretz (1824-1896) in Seneca County, Ohio on November 22, 1846 and they had nine children: --- Charles Vanburen, born December 27, 1847 --- Jacob B., born May 4, 1849 --- Alonzo L., born November 25, 1850 --- Jasper F., born August 23, 1852 --- William H. L., born February 13, 1854 --- Oscar Delos, born June 13, 1855 and died about 1858 --- Ardella Ann, born December 28, 1856 --- Agnes Almeda, born July 6, 1858 --- Joslin James, born September 11, 1860 George died at the young age of 37 but his wife Sovina survived him by decades. She was buried in Webster Twp. Cemetery on Scotch Ridge, Wood County, Ohio. 4. John Black (1826-1897) was the 2nd son of Jacob Sr. and Sarah Black, and their 3rd child born in Maryland before the family moved to Ohio. John married Mary Jacoby (#5 below) in Wyandot County, OH on November 13, 1853 and after their deaths, both were buried in Bibler Cemetery. They had six children, two of whom are likewise buried in Bibler Cemetery: --- George Washington, born August 8, 1854 --- Lafayette Lewis, born in Wyandot County, Ohio (#8 below) --- Leander Elmore, born May 15, 1857 --- John Arlington, born September 18, 1859 --- Noah Alvin, born in Wyandot County, Ohio (#9 below) --- Leafy Eleanore, born July 14, 1868 5. Mary Black (1835-1900), wife of John. Mary was the daughter of Elijah Jacoby and Mary Miller, and was born in Tymochtee Twp., Wyandot County, OH on May 4, 1835. 6. Jacob Black, Jr. (1828-1896) was the 3rd son of Jacob Sr. and Sarah Black, and their 1st child born after the family moved to Ohio from Maryland. He married Elizabeth Miley (#7 below) in Seneca County, OH on November 11, 1852 and after their deaths, both were buried in Bibler Cemetery. They had five children: --- John H., born September 1, 1853 --- Emma A., born in August 1856 and died at 20 yrs old a few years after her 1874 marriage to Franklin Johnson --- Albert Freeman, born September 28, 1862 --- Amelia, born in 1867 --- Mary, born in 1869 7. Elizabeth Black (1833-1895), wife of Jacob Jr. She was the daughter of John and Magdalena Miley, and was born in Seneca County, OH on March 8, 1833. 8. Lafayette Lewis Black (1855-1881) was the 2nd son of John and Mary Black, and was born in Wyandot County, Ohio on October 26, 1855 [NOTE: his headstone in Bibler Cemetery reads ?L Lafayette? rather than Lafayette L]. He married Alice A. Sherwood in Wyandot County on December 24, 1878 and they had just one child before Lafayette?s death at age 25: --- Eliza May, born in Sandusky County, OH on January 9, 1880 I do not know where Lafayette?s wife or daughter are buried. 9. Noah A. Black (1863-1933) was the youngest son of John and Mary Black, and was born in Wyandot County, OH on February 2, 1863. He married Nancy Ziegler in Wyandot County in 1888 and, after their deaths, both were buried in Bibler Cemetery. They had two sons: --- Clarence, born February 7, 1889 --- Roy Edward, born in Seneca County, OH in November 1895 10. Nancy Black (1863-1904), wife of Noah, was born in Seneca County, OH on December 31, 1863 and died in Wyandot County on September 7, 1904 at 40 yrs old. I do not have any information on her parents. My connection to the Blacks buried in Bibler Cemetery is as follows: Jacob Black, Sr. (1790-1875) ? John Black (1826-1897) ? Noah Black (1863-1933) ? Clarence Black (1889-1931) ? Marlin J. Black (1927-____) ? Kevin Black (me, b. 1955) Thus, Jacob Black, Sr. was my great-great-great grandfather. My grandfather Clarence (and grandmother Daisy) are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Tiffin, Seneca County, OH. The above details were compiled by Robert Dean Black of Mukilteo, WA in a Black Family history he had printed in 1999.
