Death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The deceased was born March 23, 1884, in Wharton, a son of Michael and Elizabeth (Neidig) Herrick. He was a retired railroad laborer. Surving are one sister, Mrs. Felix Kitzler, of Carey, and nine nephews and nieces. One brother and one sister are deceased. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Bristoll funeral home, Carey. Rev. Ted Smith, pastor of the Wharton Methodist Church, will officiate. C. F. HERRICK CLAIMED THURSDAY Funeral Services Of La Rue Resident To Be Held Here Mrs. Winnie Belle Herrick, 71, of La Rue, died at Hardin Memorial hospital, Kenton, Thursday at 11:40 a.m. after an illness of the past month. Death was attributed to complications. Born August 7, 1886, in Wyandot county, she was the daughter of Henry and Anna (Ritter) Stoll. She was married in Upper Sandusky February 1, 1905, to Charles F. Herrick, who died August 29, 1924. Surviving are five children, Darhl Herrick and Mrs. Blanche Mulligan, both of La Rue; Argyle Herrick, of Mt. Clemens, Mich.; Mrs. Mary Frazho, Lakeland, Mich., and Mrs. Marjorie McIntire, Florence, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, three brothers and four sisters, Allen and Wilfred Stoll, of Carey; Mrs. Willis Binau, of North Upper Sandusky; Mrs. Orrin Ekleberry, of north of Nevada; Mrs. Dorothy Miller, South Gate, Calif.; Mrs. Paul Calmes, New Carlisle, Ohio, and Everett Stoll, Akron. A brother and a sister are deceased. Mrs. Herrick was a member of the Crawford Methodist Church. She had resided 40 years in La Rue. Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Bringman & Co. funeral home. Interment will be made in Wharton cemetery. Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Friday, August 30, 1957 RITES SATURDAY FOR L. B. EWING Carey Area Resident Dies In Findlay Hospital Loren B. Ewing, 84, of five miles northwest of Carey, died at 3:10 a.m. Friday in Blanchard Valley hospital, Findlay, where he was admitted one month ago. He had been ill for several years. Born October 21, 1872, in Hancock county, Loren B. Ewing was the son of Irvin and Mae (Alspach) Ewing. He was married to the former Effie Eatherton, who survives. Also surviving is a daughterl Mrs. Edgar Oman, of Mt. Blanchard; a granddaughter, Mrs. William Bushong, of near Mt. Blanchard, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Ewing was a farmer. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Lee Church, near Vanlue, with Rev. Ruggles, of Findlay, officiating. Interment will be made in the Lee cemetery. Friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Goff funeral home in Carey, and at the church after the body is taken there at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Wednesday, April 9, 1913 MARIA MAGDALENA KOEHLER Aged Mother Passes to Eternal Rest Tuesday Afternoon Mrs. Maria Magdalena Koehler, widow of the late George Frederick Koehler, died at her home of her son, Frederick Koehler in Salem township, five miles west of Upper Sandusky, Tuesday afternoon, at 3:20 o'clock. Death was due to the infirmities of old age and she had been seriously ill only since last Thursday. Maria Magdalena Bender, daughter of David and Barbara (Beidelssschies) Bender, was born at Alt Luszheim, Baden, Germany, February 2, 1829. She was in her eighty-fifth year at the time of death. In 1849 in Germany she was wedded to George Frederick Koehler. They came to America three years later and located in Crawford county. In 1860 they came to Eden township, this county, and in 1867 located in Salem township, where she had resided since. Mr. Koehler died in 1895. Mrs. Koehler was the mother of thirteen children. One daughter as an infant in Germany and Mrs. John Katzenmeyer, Joseph Koehler and Mrs. Barbara Beidelschies, died some years ago. The children surviving a loving mother are: David, at Ada; Jacob, Fred, and Benjamin, of Salem township; John, west of town; Henry, in Richland township; George, in Antrim township; Mrs. Fred Margraf and Mrs. Charles Dirmeyer, at Tiffin. There is also a sister, Mrs. Rachel Myers, of Tiffin, and a brother, Louis Bender, at Napoleon. Mrs. Koehler was a member of Bethany Lutheran congregation and was held in the highest esteem by all. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, at 1 o'clock, from the house and 1:45 o'clock from Bethany Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. J. H. Schmidt. Burial in the Schoenberger cemetery. No flowers. Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Tuesday, January 26, 1915 DEATH AT MARION Of Ulysses Grant Couts, Former Upper Sandusky Boy Ulysses Grant Couts, fortynine years of age, died of double pneumonia at his home, No. 218 South Main street, at 4 o'clock Monday morning. The deceased was an ornamental plasterer and had resided here twelve years, says the Marion Star. Mr. Couts was born April 2, 1865. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Couts, of Upper Sandusky, who with a sister, a brother and a widow and six children, survive. The children are Mrs. George Heath, Mrs. Gladys Ruppert, Mildred, Harlold and Homer Couts, of Marion, and Neil Couts, of Detroit. R. V. Couts, of Kenton, is a brother, and Mrs. F. B. Schultz, of Marion, a sister to the deceased. Mr. Couts was a member of the Baptist faith. He had many friends who will be grieved at the unexpected word of his death. The funeral services will be held at the late home, Wednesday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. Members of Kosciusko lodge, No. 58, I.O.O.F., will assemble at the lodge hall on North Main street at 1:30 and will have charge of the services. Mr. Couts' wife was formerly Miss Ella Myers, daughter of the late Michael Myers, east of Upper Sandusky. Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Tuesday, January 26, 1915 DIED IN INFIRMARY Adolph Koehler died Monday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock, at the Wyandot county infirmary from a complication of diseases. He was sixty years old and was born in Germany. He was admitted to the infirmary a little over a year ago from Upper Sandusky. The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the infirmary, conducted by Rev. C. B. Wible. Interment will be made in the infirmary cemetery. Daily Chief-Union, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Wednesday, January 20, 1915 MRS. LOVONIA BOWEN Dies at Home of Son, Lovell H. Bowen, Tuesday Evening Mrs. Lovonia Bowen died at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell H. Bowen, on South Eighth street, Tuesday evening, at 6:40 o'clock. Death was due to creeping paralysis. Lovonia Huffman was the daughter of the late David and Emma Huffman, and was born in Upper Sandusky November 25, 1851, being aged 63 years, 1 month and 24 days, at the time of death. Her father was killed in the civil war and her mother died during the war. Deceased was married in 1869 to William Bowen, who departed this life September 8, 1898. Two children were born to this union. They are: Lovell H. Bowen, of Upper Sandusky, and Buford Bowen, of Ellwood City, Penn. Two brothers, Robert Huffman, of Walton, Ind., and David Huffman, of Kokomo, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Katharine Bennett, of Indianapolis, Ind., also survive. Mrs. Bowen resided in this city until thirtyfive years ago when she moved to Kirby, making her home there until last November, when she again returned to this city. Deceased was held in high esteem by a large circle of friends and was a member of the Kirby Church of God. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from Trinity Evangelical church, conducted by Rev. A. F. Beery, the pastor, assisted by Rev. Ray Steiner, of Wharton. Burial will be made in Old Mission cemetery. Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Tuesday, December 29, 1914 DIED IN TOLEDO Mrs. Almeda Bowsher Ranck died at the state hospital in Toledo, Monday. She was the daughter of Henry and Margaret Dickens Bowsher and was born at Bowsherville January 1, 1839. She would have been seventysix years old Friday. She was the twin sister of the late William E. Bowsher, of this city. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sarah Chase, of Toledo. John F. Stoker, east of town, is a nephew and William Ranck, of Sycamore, is a stepson of the deceased. Mrs. Susan Bowsher, on North Sandusky avenue, is a sister-in-law. The remains arrived in Upper Sandusky Tuesday afternoon over the Hocking Valley railroad and were interred in Old Mission cemetery by the side of her twin brother. Services at the grave were conducted by Rev. J. W. Byers. Daily Chief, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Tuesday, December 29, 1914 GIDEON BOWEN Death of Pioneer Resident of This City Monday Afternoon Gideon Bowen died at his home, on North Seventh street, Monday afternoon, at 12:30 o'clock, after a long illness with the infirmities due to old age. He suffered an attack of pneumonia two years ago and had been ill since that time. He was confined to his home since June, 1913, and was bedfast since August 6, last. Gideon Bowen, son of Joseph and Margaret Harmon Bowen, both long since deceased, was born on a farm in the southern part of Wyandot county, near Morral, February 15, 1829, and was in his eightysixth year at the time of death. He was married to Deborah Woolley November 18, 1852, and she passed away July 2, 1907. Five children were born to them, of whom the following survive: Mrs. Eugene Straw, near Harpster; Mrs. Ota B. Nigh, at home, and Pliny W. Bowen, north of town. Mr. Bowen was the last of a large family. He came to this city from Bowsherville in 1845, and resided here ever since. He was one of the oldest pioneers in Wyandot county and sowed oats where the Wyandot court house and jail now stand here in Upper Sandusky. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, from the home, conducted by Rev. J. W. Holland, of Springfield. Burial in Oak Hill cemetery. Wyandot County Republican, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Thursday, August 10, 1899 MISS KATE NORTON Miss Kate Norton died at her father's lovely home, south of Little Sandusky, about midday, last Friday. Deceased had been ill for some time, a victim of that dreaded disease, consumption. She was a very estimable lady, and was aged about forty-two years. She was respected and admired for her many lovely traits of character, and her death in the very noon of life is deplored by all who knew her. The funeral took place Sunday. Services were held at the home of her venerable father, and interment was made at Oak Hill cemetery. Wyandot County Republican, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Thursday, August 10, 1899 MRS. REBECCA PURKEY Mrs. Rebecca Purkey, a venerable and pioneer lady of this place, died at her late home, on South Eighth street, at about 1 o'clock, this morning, aged about eighty-five years. Deceased was a very estimable lady and was held in high esteem by the entire community. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, city time. Services will be held at the house, conducted by Rev. J. W. Belsher, of the German Reformed church. Interment in Oak Hill cemetery. ELIZABETH GRADY RAYMOND Mrs. Elizabeth Grady Raymond, the oldest resident of the village of Carey, died at the home of her daughter, Louisa Grady Raymond, Tuesday night at 11 o'clock, from the infirmities of old age. She was born in Orange county, Va., Jan. 7, 1806, thus being over ninety-three years old. The funeral will occur this afternoon, services to be held in the M. E. church at Carey. Wyandot County Republican, Upper Sandusky, Ohio Thursday, August 10, 1899 AN INFANT Mr. and Mrs. Henry Price, residing in Eden township, have the sympathy of their friends in the loss of their four months-old child, that died one day last week. The little one died from spinal meningitis. Wyandot Chief, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Thursday, September 21, 1905 STANLEY LEROY PRICE Stanley Leroy Price, the nine-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Orva Price, and grandson of Postmaster and Mr. M. F. Hemmerly, of Kirby, died at the home of his parents, two miles west of Patterson, Monday night at 11 o'clock, from cholera infantum. The little one was taken sick Sunday. The funeral of Stanley Leroy Price, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orva Price, of near Patterson, was held from the Church of God, in Kirby, Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. And was conducted by Rev. Eaken. A large crowd was in attendance. The pallbearers were Misses Fay Sherman, Ollie Price, Bertha Hogendobler and Grace Hogendobler. Burial was made in the Schoenberger cemetery. Wyandot Chief, Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio Thursday, September 21, 1905 LAST EARTHLY RITES The funeral of Mrs. John A. Kirk occurred from her late home, on North Sandusky avenue, at 12 o'clock Wednesday noon, and was conducted by Rev. Charles Bennett. A choir, composed of Mrs. Chas. Seligman, Mrs. Chas. Bennett and Miss Flora Davis, rendered several selections. The pallbearers were three brothers and three brothers-in-law of the deceased, John Beckett and Ernest Beckett, of North Baltimore; Chas. Beckett, of Bluffton; Tom Martin, of Rising Sun; Emmett Swihart, of Harpster, and Nathan Shoop, of northeast of town. Burial was made in the Wharton cemetery. A daughter was born Saturday in Wyandot Memorial hospital to Mr. and Mrs. George Beis, of route two, Sycamore. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Moore, of route four, Upper Sandusky are the parents of a daughter born in Wyandot Memorial hospital, Sunday.
