Submitted to the Ohio part of the USGenWeb Archives by Jan (Stover) Jewell Hollister, CA jj@puffin.com Death notice for Ashford Stover "Wyandot Union", at Upper Sandusky on November 12, 1874. On last Friday evening our citizens were startled at the report of the death of Ashford Stover, who died very suddenly at his residence. During the day he was as well as usual, eat (sic) a hearty supper, and then when out and assisted his wife in milking the cows as was his custom. When returning to the house he complained of not feeling well, his wife went to the house to get some medicine for him, before she got back he reached the door, said she should fix him a bed on the floor and be quick. He laid down and expired in a few moments with dropsy of the heart. Mr. Stover was one of the early settlers of this county, he was honest and appreciated as a peaceable and good citizen. Although his mental faculties have been impaired for a number of years, yet he was able to be around and could attend to his affairs. He was a man who read a great deal and was posted on the topics of the day. Politically he was a strong Democrat, he never swerved from the line of their support. He was in the 70th year of his age. He was buried on Sunday. Funeral services conducted by Rev. D.H. Curtis from the words, "Lord make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is, that I may know how frail I am," to a crowded house of attentive hearers.
