This monument is for Jacob Black Sr., the earliest of the Black ancestors buried here. The inscription reads "Jacob Black, Pvt, Capt Gault's Co, MD Mil, War of 1812, Jun 4 1790, Nov 30 1875." Additional Comments: Jacob Sr. moved to NW Ohio from Maryland in the 1850s with his wife Sarah, who are both buried nearby. Jacob Sr.'s War of 1812 militia was assigned to help guard Washington D.C. from the British toward the end of the war. He was the son of Henry and Elizabeth Schwartz.
