The main part of the inscription reads "L. Lafayette Black, Died July 10, 1881, Aged 25 Y. 8 M. 14 D." A saying in script form at the bottom of the inscription begins "Asleep in Jesus..." but is difficult to read thereafter. Additional Comments: Lafayette was born on Oct. 26, 1855 in Wyandot County to John & Mary Black, both of whom are buried nearby, as are his brother & sister-in-law Noah and Nancy Black. Lafayette married Alice A. Sherwood in Wyandot County on Dec. 24, 1878 and had one daughter [Eliza May Black] born January 9, 1880.
