"FRANK L. 'BENNY' BARKER CARMEN -- The funeral for Frank L. 'Benny' Barker, 77, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Wentworth Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. Hank Ricketson and J.M. Lemmon officiating. Burial will be in the Carmen City Cemetery. He died Tuesday at a Carmen nursing center. He was born September 14, 1911, at Wellington, Kansas and in 1928 his family moved to Carmen and operated a bakery. He graduated from Carmen High School in 1933. Barker was the bookkeeper for the local co-op for seven years and owned Barker's IGA Grocery Store for 32 years. He married Marguerite Mitchell on April 1. 1936. He was a member of the Carmen United Methodist Church and had been a member of the chamber of commerce, the Rotary Club and had served as a member of the Carmen City Council. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Freddie (Marilyn) Brown of Alva; a son, Charles of Aline; a sister, Mrs. Thelma Bennett of Henderson, Nevada; four grandchlldren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Center's cancer division, or to the Carmen park fund.
