Memorials: The family suggests donations be made to the building fund of First Christian Church of Granbury, in lieu of flowers. Mrs. Barnes was born Dec. 6, 1925, in Cherokee, Okla., the daughter of the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Cecil E. Berry. At the end of World War II, she married her childhood sweetheart, Lynn Carl Barnes. After her husband finished medical school, they moved to Nowata, Okla., where Dr. Barnes practiced medicine for 13 years before leaving private practice to join the Federal Aviation Administration as a regional flight surgeon. This brought them to the Fort Worth area. In 1984, upon Dr. Barnes' retirement, the couple moved to Granbury from North Richland Hills. All her life Mrs. Barnes was very active in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), serving on numerous boards, chairing many groups and functions, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She was area president of the Trinity-Brazos Area Christian Church from 1984 to 1986, and was also active in Church Women United, an ecumenical service group. In addition, Mrs. Barnes served on the board of the Disciple's Crossing Camp in Athens. She was also a supporter of the Hogar Infantil Cristiano in El Quemado-Los Organos, Mexico, where she endowed a scholarship fund. In addition to church work, while her children were young, she was very active in Girl Scouting and served as a troop leader, cookie chair and camp supporter. While living in Oklahoma, she served as president of the Bluestem Girl Scout Council. Mrs. Barnes attended Texas Woman's University, graduating in 1976, with a bachelor of science degree in radio and television communication. From 1980 to 1982, she did pro bono work with the Fort Worth Police Department on crime prevention-related public service announcements and training videos. Mrs. Barnes was noted for her public speaking skills and recorded several opening and closing prayers and devotionals used on area television stations during the 1980s. In Granbury, Mrs. Barnes was active in PEO, where she held the office of chapter president in 1993 and 2000. She also served as president of the Fort Worth Area PEO Council in 1989.
