Cuykendall, Vivian L., 91, retired legal secretary and savings counselor, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Visitation with the family will be 6 ~ 8 P.M., Thursday, May 3 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East. Service 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 4 at Plymouth Congregational Church. Vivian was born March 6, 1916 in Alfalfa County, OK. She graduated from Kiowa High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. Vivian attended Emporia State Teachers College. On November 7, 1948 she married Max A. Cuykendall who preceded her in death on February 28, 1958. Her parents also precede her in death. Vivian was a legal secretary at the law firm of Adams and Jones. She also worked as a savings counselor for American Savings. Vivian's goal in life was to spread some kind of happiness. She spent hours each day writing notes, making phone calls and fixing food. Friends especially looked forward to her deviled eggs. Vivian was a music lover, playing the piano, organ and string bass. She had quite a collection of records, tapes and sheet music. Other hobbies were her flower gardens on each side of her home and across the back of her lot. Bridge was a favorite hobby, played with one friend for over 48 years. Last but not least was her loyalty and devotion to Plymouth Congregational Church where she was a member for over 50 years. At one time she was a member of the church staff with the title of Parish Visitor, calling on the sick, assisting church members in making funeral arrangements for loved ones, etc. Also through the years Vivian served on many boards; Board of Deacons, Trustees, Christian Education and as Courtesy Chairman for her circle. She also met with a group of ladies on Thursday afternoons to make gifts for shut-ins and for hospital patients. Survivors: brother, Gene Alexander of Belleville, IL; cousins, Jack Simmons (Lillian) of Golden, TX, Jacquie Sanders (Neal) of Wichita, Jim Simmons of Golden, TX and Rory Simmons of Augusta, KS; nieces, Sally Cuykendall Dickens and her sons, Michael (Jodi) and Patrick (Anne) and Patrick's sons, Murray and Walker and niece, Maxine P. Howard and her daughter, Deborah. A memorial has been established with Plymouth Congregational Church, 202 N. Clifton, Wichita, KS, 67208.
