All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Forest Lawn Memorial Park--Covina Hills CA Grove, Georgia Grove, Georgia (79) Pomona Community Leader Georgia Grove, 79, a community leader in the City of Pomona for many years, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2003 of Parkinson-related causes in an assisted living facility in Pacific Palisades. Born in Aline, Oklahoma on July 26, 1923, she spent most of her life in Southern California. She and her family settled in Pomona in 1961 where she soon became active in local civic and political affairs. Georgia was a member of the Pomona City Council for five yeras and, at the time, was only the second woman ever elected to the Council. She served with the Los Angeles County Justice System Advisory Group for four years. Her community service included membership in the Pomona Economic Development Corp. and the Pomona Chamber of Commerce where she served as vice president. She was chairwoman of the Pomona All American City Award Committee and the Pomona Police Awards Luncheons. She was a six-time president of the Pomona Valley Republican Women, Federated and twice was named Woman of the Year from the 61st Assembly District. Preceded in death by Marvin, her husband of 62 years, she is survived by her daughters, Myrna Gillespie of Mesa, Arizona and Gayla Hope of Pacific Palisades, California, three grandchildren, Dondi Voss, Melinda Gillespie and D. Jay Gillespie and three great-grandchildren, Alex Alderks, Skyler Gillespie and Gayla Gillespie. Visitation Wednesday, July 30, 2003 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Ave., Pomona, California. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Church of Our Heritage at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Covina Hills.
