LINFOOT CHEROKEE (Alfalfa County) - The funeral for Dewey Overton Linfoot, 82, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Cherokee First Christian Church. The Revs. Michael Overstreet and Mike Isbell will officiate. Burial will be in the Auburn Cemetery, near Cherokee, under direction of Goodwin Funeral Home. The casket will be open at the funeral home until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, then remain closed after the service. The family will be in the fellowship hall at the church before the service. He was born May 4, 1912, in Cherokee to Earl Leslie and Lillie May Vandruff Linfoot and died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid. He attended Cherokee schools and married Ruby Jantz March 31, 1942, in Tulsa. She preceded him in death. Linfoot owned Dewey's Candy and Gift Shop for 30 years. He also was a volunteer Santa and collected memorial funds for residents of Cherokee. He delivered the Grit newspaper for more than 50 years and annually worked at a children's camp. He was a member of the Nazarene Church and the Senior Citizens Center. Surviving are two daughters, Gay Penner of Fairview and Joy Ware of Alva,; one son, Grady of Lemon Grove, Calif.; two sisters, Opal Caywood of Cherokee and Arlene Wilcox of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Doyle of Long Beach, Calif., and Corkey of Tecumsuh; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
