Mathis, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2004 at the Cherokee United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Edmison will officiate, assisted by Kim Ellis. Burial will follow in the Cherokee Municipal Cemetery under the direction of the Goodwin Funeral Home. Visitation at the funeral home will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Military graveside rites will be conducted. He was born Oct. 12, 1926 on a farm southwest of Beaver to Jesse and Merle Allman Mathis and passed away April 20, 2004 at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; his children David and Janis Mathis, Cherokee, and Nancy and Dean Hutchinson of Agra; five grandchildren: Christie Jayne, David Mathis, Jess Mathis, Justin Hutchinson and Jessica Hutchinson; and five great-grandchildren Jarid, Jake, Dallas, Zach and Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Michelle Mathis, and two sisters, Donna Mae Cothran and JoNell White.
