Newton, 91, of Amarillo, died Monday, March 6, 2000. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon with the Rev. Tom Boyles of Victory Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mrs. Newton was born in Stringtown, Okla. She moved to the Panhandle area in 1929 from Breckenridge. She lived in various towns before moving to Amarillo from Panhandle in 1987. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Panhandle, Panhandle Pen Women of Amarillo and First Baptist Church in Panhandle. She married Tommy Newton in 1957 at Panhandle. He died in 1997. Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Higgins of Amarillo and Gayle Smallwood of Paris; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nine greatgreat-grandchildren; and a special friend, Angris Freeman of Amarillo.
