Beckham County, OK - Bios: Powers Family Sunday, 11 January 2009 Submitted by: reedgenealogy@hotmail.com (Charles Reed) ************************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************** The Bennet Powers family line is easily tracked back to Henderson County Tennessee where John and Bennet Powers are some of the first settlers of that area having moved there from South Carolina. Several stories are found that mention the Powers line and numerous people are tracking that line. This family branched off into Oklahoma and Missouri. Bennett moved his family to Dunklin County Missouri from Henderson County Tennessee prior to 1879. Bennet had married Eliza Adline Mosier who also began in Henderson County Tennessee. In Dunklin County 1880, there was B.T. (Bennet), E.A. (Eliza Adline), Marry M (Known later to be Mary called Molly), Rebecca L (known later as Rebeccca Luella) and Parlee (Later known as Carelle, Clara L, Pearl, Perry Lee) the latter is also the subject of this article. Parlee Powers was born in Kennet, Dunkin County Missouri 1879 to Bennet T. Powers and Eliza Adaline (Mosier) ( Powers) Webster. She lived in Dunklin County for a short time. The births of her siblings show they lived there in 1874, moved back to Tennesee then moved back to Kennet, Dunklin Co. Missouri in 1878 and lived there until about 1 881 or 1882 when they moved back to Henderson Co. Tennessee. Eliza's obituary reads that Bennet died in 1881. It is assumed that Eliza moved back to Tennesee if those dates are correct and had two other sons there. Albert and Marvin both were born in Tennessee after the date Given as Bennet's death date. I believe that Bennet was having health problems and they all moved back to Henderson County where the two boys were born and Bennet died. Eliza married Daniel Webster in 1892 Canadian County Oklahoma Territory. They moved to Rocky Washita County where the resided until their deaths. We know that Samuel and Parlee Farmer had a son Barney M Farmer who was born 13 Nov 1896 in Oklahoma or Indian Territory and died 19 Jun 1899 in Sandstone, Beckham County Oklahoma. His tombstone is in the Sandstone Cemetery there. William Simon Farmer was on the Sandstone school board. He is a brother to Samuel Farmer and an Uncle to Barney M Farmer. Parlee married Samuel Jasper Farmer around 1895 in Oklahoma Territory. They had three children in the 1900 census; Bessie M (4), WM D (2) and Joseph (3/12). They were living in Elk Township, Rogermills County Oklahoma Territory. The 1910 census aides the belief that Sam and Parlee were married and lived there as all the children are shown being born in Oklahoma. There was the children from the 1900 census along with James A (8), Carl C (6), Raymond L (4), Albert H (2) and Tessie V (1/12) all added to the family. They were living in Elk Township, Beckham County Oklahoma. In 1920 the family had moved to the Red Rock Ranch in Carson, Noble County Oklahoma. They have added Opal to the family. Tessie seems to be called Fressie and Albert H is called Hammond. Should be Hansford. Sam is running the Ranch. The 1930 census found them in Elk, Beckham County Oklahoma once again with Sam (54), Perry Lee (51), Otha (14) and Opal (10). Eliza Adline (Mosier) Powers, Webster, died in Rocky, Washita County Oklahoma in 1931. Her Obituary published 31 Dec 1931 reads in part that her daughter, Parlee Farmer, lives in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Parlee and Samuel Jasper Farmer lived in the Elk City, Beckham County Oklahoma and the RedRock, Noble County Oklahom area most of their lives. They raised ten children. I have yet to locate their burial places but will most likely find them sometime. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
