(1925 & Jan-Feb 1926)
 of Harvey Morrison (1848-1927)
as transcribed from the original by Bill Morrison. Effort was made to copy
spelling and to make reasonable "guesses" regarding questionable names and
places.  All emphasis is added.
Original punctuation and capitalization was sporadic.

At the beginning is:          "To my Other Mother

Diary for Jan 1925 [While residing near Erick, Beckham Co., Oklahoma]

T 1    Got up early   it was cold from North   Leo [Harvey's middle son of
his marriage to Rebecca Elizabeth Robinson, nee Harvey] went to Dark to
leave notice & he then went to town  I set at home   it faired up & wind
stoped blowing about 1 PM   I wrote here at 3 PM  set at home the rest of
day.

F 2    Set at home & read AM  went to town PM  Leo went around to see
parties  came home late.
_____________________________________________________________

S 3    Went to town PM & set at Gillums most of the time  lots of folks
there  came home late  cool.

S 4    Set at home all day  was not very well  had a bad spell of heart
failure at night  Leo mad coffee & I set up awhile & took stricknine tabs &
was better.

M 5    Leo went to town & came back & I went with him PM & set around  it
was fair and warmer.

T 6    Went to town early  set at Gillums till most 2 PM.  Came home eat
dinner & set & read & wrote here at 4 PM  Leo had gon a hunting  fair &
warmer  Leo went to church at Methodist at night.

W 7     Leo went to Sayre [County seat of Beckham county, Oklahoma] early &
I stayed at home & read & Leo got back about 3 PM & went to church at night.

T 8  Went to town early  Came back & set around & read  warm & nice.

F 9    Went to Darks  he had took the last bale of cotton to gin  went to
town & back at noon  Leo went again PM & at night to church & basket ball
game.

S 10    It was cloudy & cold  got mail Leo went to town  I wrote here at 4
PM  he had just got home  faired off? [In January 1908 Orion Morrison was
assigned the first rural mail route established in Erick after statehood.
His brother, Leo, apparently sometimes carried it for Orion.]

S 11    Set at home  Leo went to S S & came home eat dinner & went to Tom
Powells  Benny came home with us & Leo then went to preaching at Methodist
church & took Powells  came home late  it was fair.

M 12    Set around home all day & read  it was windy & cold  Leo went to
town & took Tom to the meeting at Wilsons  Tom & Shorty Brook came & set
till after 10 PM  the wind stoped 6 PM.

T 13    Went to town & took in most of the town  came home about 1 PM  set
around it was fair & warm  Leo went to church at night.

W 14    Went to town AM  set at home the rest of day  it was fair till after
noon  it blowed from south hard.


T 15    Set at home all day  Leo went to town & stayed all day it turned
cold about 4 PM & sleeted & snowed & it was real cold all night.

F 16    Set at home all day  snow on the ground & cold Leo went to town
faired off but was cold till 3 PM  wrote here then.

S 17    Stayed at home all day  Leo went to town & stayed most all day
faired up som   cold.

S 18    Stayed at home all day  Leo went to S S & to preaching at night  he
eat dinner at Martins  still cold.

M 19    Went to town early  stayed till noon  Leo went back PM  it was fair
& nice set at home & read Sundays -  etc.

T 20    Set at home  cloudy & cold  Leo went to town with Tom Powers  they
came home & eat dinner & went of  I wrote here at 3 PM.

W 21    Got up early  Leo went & got Shorty Brooks & came back & then they
went to Sayre to the Dark trial  Stayed at home all day  Leo came home about
739 PM  they had a hung jury.

T 22    Got up early  went to town AM & PM  Set around town  Came home about
6 PM  fine & fair.

F 23    Set at home & read & wrote here at 1 PM  fine & fair  wrote to
Pleiades & Bud & read  Leo stayed in town most all day.

S 24    Set at home & wrote & read AM  went to town PM  walked up & down the
street  went to city hall  came home late  fair & cool.
S 25    Got up early  Leo don the choirs  Killed & dressed a chicken  he
then went to S. S. at 930 AM  I wrote here at 11 AM  we went to Powells 6
mile East of Erick [Oklahoma in Beckham county]  Leo went to preaching at
night.

M 26     It blowed up cold about midnight & was cold & high wind all day
Leo stayed at home all day & we read etc.

T 27    Still cold but no wind  Leo went to town  I stayed at home all day &
read etc   Leo went back PM.

W 28    Went to town with Leo morning & evening  it was fair & warm.

T 29    Set at home & read AM  Leo brought some berries & cooked them & we
went to town PM & set around till late  came by Powers & got some milk & we
got some coal  it was fair  Leo went to loge at night.

F 30    Went to town & set at Gillums till noon  took sick & we came home
and I throwed up the milk I eat for breakfast  Leo went to town & back at
430 PM.

S 31    Set around home AM  went to town & set around & walked around some
came home early.

Diary for Feb 1925

S 1    Leo went to church  Dark was there  came home  set around PM  it was
cold but fair.

M 2    Leo went to town early  I set at home & read AM  went to town &
walked around PM  came home early  Dark comenced to plow on this place  got
a letter from C C Morrison AM  went to town PM.


T 3    Set at home all AM  went to town PM  talked to Lambnight  came home
early  Delia [then, Leo's wife] went to Sayre with Dark  it was fair & nice.

W 4    Got up early  we went to Sayre  took Bingham and the Lawyers   Worked
on the case all day & agreed several times but Delia would back out  got the
case put off came home  it was a fine day.

T 5    Set at home & read AM  Leo went to town  we went to town PM  Leo went
to Lodge & to see Bingham  fine & fair.

F 6    Went to town early  set around  came home early  read the papers
Price, the matress man came & set awhile then eat dinner & went to town
came home late & we booth took a bath at night   Fair.

S 7    Set at home & read  Leo went to town & brought out Mr Richardson  we
had a long talk & fine time  we all went to town then and I set in cars most
of the evening  came home late  fair.

S 8    Set at home all day  Leo went to S S & preaching & then back at night
still fair  wind from N  Leo wrote to Frank & Myrtie & I wrote to
Ca   not much cold. [Frank & Myrtie Mae Shapley--she was Harvey's daughter
"Ca" is Caleb C. Morrison-one of Harvey's brothers who lived in Cooke
County, Texas, near Harvey's parents Milton L. and Nancy Ann Morrison and
most of their children--all of whom came there from Tennessee in about mid
1870s]

M 9    Some ice but fair most of day  I set at home & read & wrote here at 5
PM  Leo hauled off a load of Wheat to Benomise[?] & him & Tom loaded up
another & he then helped Tom on well  fair.




T 10 I was very windy and a sand storm most of day  Leo went to town & then
went back to see about a complomize   they mad none   wind layed about
Sundown  Benny Powers came & stayed all night.

W 11    Cool but fair  Dark came by  Leo cleaned up & they went to town  I
got mail & read & wrote here at 110 PM  Leo went back to town to see if
there was a chance of complomizing   Tom Powers came & set awhile   Leo took
him home.

T 12  Leo went to town early & came back & took a load of Wheat to Benomise
& came home & loaded up another   him & Tom Powers  they then went off   I
got mail & read & set at home  wrote here 430 PM.

F 13    Leo went to town & brought Tom home with him  we eat dinner & Leo
took the  last load of Wheat to Benomise after 2 PM  Tom set awhile & tended
to the cow & then went home  I stayed at home all day  not very well   Wind
from South hard.

S 14    Got mail & set at home AM  went to town & went over town some  sold
the ____ [?] trees on home lots to Prack for $8.00   $2.50 down  $5.50 due
fair but cool.

S 15    Got up early  Leo went to take Chaney Brooks to Sayre   I wrote here
from Jan 1st to date this 1145 Am   Leo came home  eat dinner & then went to
Shamrock Tx & saw Venus    Josie was gon to Ranger  I set at home all
evening   Delia came down & got som maches   fair and nice. [Harvey had two
daughters from his third marriage--to Josie Caviness, nee Newman--Venus and
Pleiades]

M 16    Set at home all day & read the Sundays   Leo went to town AM & back
& got coal PM  the wind blowed all day.



T 17    Got mail  cleaned up house etc read & wrote here 130 PM  It was fair
& cool   Leo got up horses  then went off not back yet 130 PM  Leo had
helped Tom Kill hogs  came home  eat dinner & went to rake up weeds & brok
the rake tounge & fixed it  fair but cool from S.

W 18    Set at home & read most all day  cleaned out the toilet  Leo went to
town & got lamp flue & other things  still cool from South but fair  Leo
raked & burned weeds on the creek North of R R.

T 19    Leo went & got a stalk cutter of Smith  I set at home Leo cut cotton
stalks North of R R & went to loge at night  Fair & warmer.

F 20    Set at home AM & read  Leo cut stalks on North side of R R  AM &
went to Texola  PM  cloudy & a little cool   wrote here at 1 PM, got some
papers from Ca  Leo went to loge at night.

S 21    Set at home A.M. & read  went to town PM & set around there.
_____________________________________________________________

S 22    Set at home all day  Leo went to church & they had a business
meeting   it was fair.

M 23    Set at home  it was cold & a hard wind   Leo went to town a time or
two.

T 24    Set at home AM  went to town PM  cloudy & cool & got colder.

W 25    Set at home AM  went to town PM  still  cold  Leo was looking up
evidence.

T 26    Set at home AM  Went to town PM  cold from East & hard wind.


F 27    Set at home AM  Leo went to have the lady summoned as a witness &
came home & we both went to town to the trial of his & Darks rent case   it
was tryed before Pat without a jury  Minton & Gipson for Dark & Bingham for
Leo  decision Sat at 9 AM  eat supper & fish at Toms.

S 28    Set at home AM  Delia came & got books & had Mcgarr to haul off a
load of hay  Leo & Tom came & eat dinner & we all went to town then wind
from the North   came home the North road by Toms   got three sacks of coal
hard wind from North but not very cold.

Diary for March 1925

S 1    Wind from north  Leo went to preaching  I wrote here at 1120 AM  set
around & read Sunday Oklahoman  Leo went to town at night.

M 2    Stayed at home all day & read the papers  Leo went to town & to Sayre
to see about appealing his & Darks case  came home early & decided to stay
here on this place & let the other man sue if he wanted too  fair but cool.

T 3    Set at home & read  Leo cleaned up both rooms & got dinner  we eat &
he went to Sayre to Woodman banquet at about 1 PM  I cleaned up & wrote here
at 3 PM  high wind but fair  Leo stayed till late.

W 4    Set at home all day  Tom & John Powels came  Leo went to town AM &
then at night & got some red hens & a roster  20 hens at 22 per  fair &
nice.

T 5    Set at home & read AM   Leo cleaned out the hen house  wind from the
south  Leo went to town at 2 PM  Tom Powers brought the filleys home & set
here till most night  Leo went back to town & to Loge at night.

F 6    Set at home all day  cut up potatoes & then plowed garden & drug it &
planted the potatoes  it was real warm  set out in the shad PM but was not
well  fair.     No fire in stove today.

S 7    Set at home & read some  Leo went on North place to grub up some
trees  Delia got the eggs at noon  I was not will  Leo got hay & eat & then
went to town at 2 PM  I eat some cheese & crackers & wrote here at 3 PM
Cloudy som.     warm   no fire in heater to day.

S 8    Leo went to church & S. S. we eat dinner & went across North fork to
Sikes & got some alfalfa seed  Some wind from West but mostly fair  Delia
got the eggs while we were gon.     no  fire to day.

M 9    Set at home & read all day   Leo worked the road on North side of
place   fair but cool  wind from West or S.W.   no fire all day.

T 10    Leo went to town then to John Powells & got a go Devil & eat dinner
& went & got his car top fixed & then went to his place to cut sprouts  I
set at home  got the mail & said a few words to Delia about the chickens &
mail box   wrote here at 430 PM  Wind from West & cool & turned to N.E. at
night.

W 11    Went to get the mail & the box was gon   Delia said she had it   Leo
took it easy  him & Tom Powers working on the land north of the R R go
deviling & dragging etc  set at home   not very well  wrote here at 4 PM  It
was cold from N E  moderated & clouded up & turned some warmer.

T 12    Set at home all  day  it sprinkled rain & hailed som & was cloudy &
sprinkled rain some PM  Leo & Tom got don preparing the land for alfalfa on
North side of R R & it thundered & lightened most all night and sprinkled
som.

F 13    The wind was hard from the West & N W all day   set around   Leo
went to Toms & to town & it got cold at night etc  all night it was real
cold  set around all day  The Rawley man came & the hog man.


S 14    Leo cleaned up around & put up a mail box up at the road & he then
went to town  PM it was cold  ice an inch or more thick  wind from North &
high most of time  I read most of day & wrote here at 420 PM  Leo came home
late still cold  went to  Powells at night.

S 15    Set at home all day  Leo went to church & to S.S. & to preaching at
night- wind from South & cold but fair.

M 16    Stayed at home all day & read the Sundays  it was cool & windy from
West  Tom came for the mars [mares?] but is was too windy   Leo recovered
the shed  the wind had blowed the roof off  Tom helped.

T 17    Stayed at home all day  Leo fixed lot & pasture fence & we went to
Orions & set till bed time & they played 42  the boys & Sites & Sawyers.
[Orion--my father-- was Harvey's youngest son by Rebecca Elizabeth]

W 18    Set around AM  went to town PM  Tom eat dinner here & went with us
fair but cold  saw Prack & he told me of the letters to stop etc [?]  Leo
sent with Stone to Sites for chickens.

T 19    Set at home AM  Leo cleaned up & went to Depot to meet Powers  came
home & worked around the garden & planted seed in boxes  I shaved  wrote
here at 4 PM  fair wind from South  Mr Emmons came & set awhile at night.

F 20    Got up late  got mail  wind from South  getting higher all morning
till 12 noon   Leo got up mars but wind too high to work  then he burnt
weeds on creek below garden  wrote here at 1210 PM  Went to town  PM & saw
Brooks & Thymen   came home early  Leo went to Loge.

S 21    Set at home all day  Leo cleaned up some & then went to town  I was
sick & got worse & was bad when he got home & throwed up twice but got
better at night.

S 22    Was better  eat some the set around & read  Leo went to Church &
then then went back to town PM  I walked around some & wrote here at 410 PM
fair & warm  Leo got back at 9 PM  had been to Sayre.

M 23    Set around AM  went to town PM & Leo made arrangements to go fishing
came home  Leo don up the work & churned & it was fair & warm.

T 24    Got up early   Leo fixed & went to Lawton or to the lake  him &
Emmons  I set at home all day  Dark put his cows & 3 mules in the pasture  I
kept the mules up & turned them out about 6 PM  Benny Powers came down to do
the work  he milked & don the choirs  it was fair &  nice & warm.

W 25    Set at home all day  most  & read etc  Benny came from school about
6 PM Tom had been here AM  Benny don choirs & eat his supper  Delia came by
& set awhile  I had turned a cow out  Leo came home about 9 PM  fair & warm.

T 26    The wind got up early & blowed hard all day & we set at home all day
me & Leo  he don choirs  it was cool & a hard wind from North all day.

F 27    Leo healed out onions & worked on his car AM  Tom & wife came & set
awhile  we eat dinner & Leo went to town & I wrote here at 330 PM  Set
around & read etc  Leo & Tom came in & Leo took Tom home & then don choirs
fair & nice  not much wind but a plenty from South mostly.

S 28    Got up early  Leo went to Toms & got ladder & then went to town come
home at dinner & then went back  I read & wrote here at 415 PM  high wind
from South all day & smokey   Leo came home & don choirs & read the
---ction paper  Delia had took the last of the hay & she gathered the eggs
to day.


S 29    Set at home & took a bath  Leo cleaned up around & put in a box &
then went tot town  the wind from N E & cool  wrote here at 535 PM  Leo had
been to Hardshell meeting & to Ball game  came home early.

M 30    Cloudy & misting all day  Tom came & helped clean out cistern &
Grandpa came with them & eat dinner & Leo took them home & went to town  him
& Tom.

T 31    Set at home AM  went to town  took Tom  set around came home early
it was cloudy some but no rain  blowed from South rather hard.

Diary for April 1925

W 1    Set around AM  Tom came & we went by there & took him to town  walked
over town  had a talk with O Connell   came home  Leo don up choirs & went
back at night for a setting of eggs at Sallies  fair but looked like rain
late   rained North of here it looked like.

T 2    Set at home all day  put out bed clothes    the wind got up high from
West  Leo took hay to town & bought a low wagon from Herbert Moss  Tom &
folks came down  the folks went to Delias  it was cool & high wind  Watsons
boys came down PM  Wrote here at 630 PM.

F 3    Set at home all day  very high wind from North & cool  Leo went to
Loge at night.

S 4    Set at home AM  went to town PM  set around in town   got check from
Prack   wind from North all day  Leo went to town at night.

S 5    Got up early  shaved & dressed & went to Clucks birth day dinner  he
was 35  Stones  Renners [?] Tuyles [?] & Parkers were there & we sure had a
fine  time & extra good dinner  came home late & don choirs.


M 6    Got up early & went to town prepared to go to Mangum to trial but did
not go  high wind from South  came home & Powells came & Eat dinner & stayed
till 5 PM  very high wind from South.

T 7    Tom Powers came & Leo & him cleaned  out the cistern at Delias & then
Leo took a load of hay to town on his new wagon  I read & wrote here at 110
PM  Leo came home late & set around & read.

W 8    Leo  took a load of [blank] & brought back lumber to make a frame for
hay  Toms came & set till bed time & Billey stayed all night.  I missed
Wednesday here. [?]

T 9    Washed dishes & swept up  Leo took hay to town & came home early
Tom & family came & Tom helped him on his hay frame  fair & wind from N W to
N.  This for Friday [?]  wrote here at 655 PM.

F 10    Set at home all day  Tom & wife came PM  Tom set here & we talked
about the make up some  Leo came later & then went back to W. O. W. lodge
fair & warm.

S 11    Set at home Am  went to town PM & set in car after talking with
Blancit   came home early & it rained a shower  Delia helped put up the
chickens  warm at night.

S 12    Tom came down & Leo don choirs & went to S. S. & preaching  Tom came
& got me & I went up there & eat dinner & we all went to the egg hunt in the
alfalfa & then to the ball game at Eck Ellises & home  fair but showers
around.

M 13    Set at home & read the papers  Leo went to town  Tom came & got the
team & his wagon   Leo came back at 11 AM & worked around the hay house
some--daubed it with oil   I wrote here at 315 PM  we went & got some water
cress at Mrs Boyers place & then don choirs   Tom brought the team home.

T 14    Set around & read  it was very high wind from S E & sand & cold  Leo
worked on his hay frame  the Wilson boys came awhile  it quit blowing about
Sundown.

W 15    Leo went to town  I shaved & got ready to go to Shamrock & then
wrote here at 10 AM  we went to Shamrock to Venuses & eat dinner & Martin
came & we talked awhile & I went up to Halls office & had my teeth pulled
13 of them  paid him $5  we then came home & I bled all night till 4 AM &
never slept.

T 16    Set at home all day  read  some   Leo went after the mail & got back
just before 12  he went to town PM & seen about a trade with Dark & we
talked it over  he took Delia to Texola at night  fair & warm.

F 17    Leo went to town early  Delia came by & I wrote here at 9 15 AM  Leo
went to see about trading with Dark but did not trade  Tom & folks & Martin
& Sallie came out & we went to the water cress pack & got some cress   Tom
took Delia & the folks  fair & nice. [Sallie (nee Robinson) is Harvey's
step-daughter and my father, Orion's, half-sister, Martin Stone was her
husband.]

S 18    Leo stayed around home most  all morning & don choirs  I was sick
then he went to town about 1 PM & came back about 3 PM  I was better  he
went of with Martin & came home late  Martin & Sallie came out & set till
bed time   the wind got high from W.

S 19    Leo don the choirs & then went to S. S. & church at 10 AM  I set at
home  not very well & wrote here at 1145 AM  We eat dinner & then Powells
came by & we all went down in the breaks & set there awhile then eat supper
& a good one at that then came home about dark   it was a fine day.


M 20    Set at home all day  not much well   mouth sore & bleeding some  Tom
got a load of maize AM  Leo went to town PM  Delia eat supper with us & we
talked awhile  fair all day not much wind.

T 21    Leo went to town early to see about the Dark trade  came home at
noon & we eat & he went to fix the door screen at Delias  wrote here at 215
PM  we went to town & I walked around   Leo got poke [poke salad greens] at
old place  we came home early  the wind from S rather hard.

W 22    High wind from South all day   sprinkled some about 4 PM  clouded up
from West & rained about 930 till most 12 at night  Leo went to town morning
& evening   Delia was here PM & we had the first long talk about the make up
etc.[the "make up" was apparently reference to the status of Leo's marriage
to Delia]

T 23    Had had a good rain the first in 5 months and more water in the
cistern & tubs    set at home AM  Leo went to town & came back at 12   Tom &
wife & Delia eat dinner here & they all went off but Delia & we had another
talk  Leo went to town   went off with Tom  I wrote here at 550 PM.

F 24    Set at home all day  read etc.

S 25    Went to town early  went on the rout with Orion & then eat in
Nichols restaurant & set around  came home with Toms & Leo came later  he
had cleaned up around  AM.

S 26    Set at home   Leo went to S. S. & Preaching  Elder preached & it
came up a big rain  I put up the  chickens all but one hen   Leo put her up
the creek got out of banks some  Delia brought up some Dinner & lot of
things to eat  after the rain.

M 27    Set at home  Leo  went to Toms & to town  got greans  lamsquarter

T 28    Leo fixed the greans & cooked them    I stayed at home all day  it
was cloudy some & cool.

F 1    Got up early  all right set around AM & went to town PM  got a shave
& came home early  read some & wrote here at 630 PM  Leo worked in garden
plowed some & set out bermuda onions  it was a fine day  but fair cool &
fair.

S 2    Set at home AM  Leo plowed in garden & got go devil & worked som in
alfalfa ground North of R  R  we all went to town PM & set around till late
& the don choirs  it was fair but cool.

S 3    Leo went to S. S. & church & I took a bath & set around  Delia eat
dinner here & we set and talked till 3 or 4 then went to town & took Mr
Morris the peanut man out for a ride  went around the big & lower Davis farm
& then came home & don choirs & Leo went to town again & Delia stayed here
till the wind blowed up at 930 PM  the wind  was hard from the east at
night.

M 4    Set at home all day  Leo worked on alfalfa land most all day  he got
a harrow from Smith  Tom got drill at noon  Delia was here PM & set awhile &
helped put up the chicks  Leo went to town at night   the wind hard from
East most all day.


T 5    Set at home & read the papers   I washed up the dishes AM  got the
Sunday   Delia brought roast for dinner & biscuit  etc  I read PM  Leo
worked on the alfalfa land all day after going to town AM.  Delia took the
car & went to town PM  it was mostly fair but sprinkled som at 1 PM  I
walked over  the garden & alfalfa som  wrote here at 515 PM  don choirs.

W 6    Set at home all day & read papers  Tom eat dinner here & the him &
Leo went to town & they came back late   it was misting most all day  had
poke greans for dinner wind from S E all day & cool.

T 7    Still cloudy  Leo worked some on flower bed & then went to his
alfalfa ground   came home late for dinner but went back at 2 PM  I was not
well  had the polk greens trots  got the mail & read & wrote here at 305 PM
Me & Delia pined the chicks   Leo came home & don choirs  faired off.

F 8    Misty but faired off & was a pretty day  Leo finished harrowing &
sowed some alfalfa PM I was all (O. K.) read & set around  it clouded up
from N. W. at Sundown & rained about mid night.

S 9    Got up early  it had rained a good slow rain & was fair & nice early
wrote here about 820 AM  went to town rather early & set around till 2 PM
came home & Delia cooked the fish & Leo set out Sweet potato slips   it
looked like rain but did not rain  Leo went to town & got some children &
they made ice cream at Delias   there was about 17 there  Toms were all
there   they made two baches & then told games etc till 930 PM.

S 10    It had rained a good shower at night & was misting rain till 11 AM
when this was wrote   set around the stove  Wind from East & misting   All
of us stayed at home   Leo went to town late.

M 11    Set at home   Leo worked on the land & sowed some alfalfa across the
R R on his place.


T 12    Leo sowed alfalfa all day & got most don the 10 acre place  run out
of seed   Delia cooked dinner & helped around here   it was fair.

W 13    It had rained the hardest rain ever fell here in the knowledge of
man & the creek was a river for awhile  it washed up & covered up the garden
& alfalfa & most or part of the other crops  we went to town   Tom went with
us  came back early  Orions boy baby was born about 4 PM. [That would be my
brother, Orion Morrison, Jr., presently, a longtime resident of West Covina,
California.]

T 14    Leo carried the mail & I went with him  the brige was washed around
at Wiley Hammonds but we got across & Leo got tomato plants at Brooks  we
went to Orions & saw the baby  came home & set around & Leo set out the
plants & fixed some fence along the road that was down. [Orion Morrison
surveyed one of the first rural mail  routes to be carried from Erick,
Oklahoma.  Because he made the highest grade on the carrier's examination,
he got the first route opened--in 1908 (though it was not the route that he
had surveyed).  He carried the rural mail there till 1929, then transferred
to Stigler, Oklahoma until March 1942 when he transferred to Arapaho,
Oklahoma where he continued on a rural route until his retirement at age 70
after 48 years as a rural mail carrier.]

F 15    Leo fixed fence  it was hot & mudy   the fence along the alfalfa
we went to town  I got som under clothes at Brooks  came home late  don
choirs.

S 16    Took a bath & put on clean clothes & then went up to Franks by
Shamrock  we took a man in at Texola & took him to Gogeby [?]  saw Auther
Gaylon there  eat dinner at Canadian & then went to Spearman & Saw Frank &
some others we knew  went on to Franks & found all well  it was cool  had a
fire in heater.

S 17    Got ready & went up to Virgil Alexanders & found Josh & Dave & their
wives there  had a big time  got home to Franks late  Leo stayed at Frank
Wallings  had a fine day & enjoyed it.


M 18    It was misting rain some   Leo & the Franks went to Spearman & got
his car fixed  Bulah had put it to the bad the day before   I set around
Franks with Myrtie & Lois & Bulah & went out & saw Uncle George PM & heard
him preach some Second coming & K K K stuff.

T 19    Got ready & came home  had trouble about gass feed & stoped under a
big cotton wood tree & fixed it  came on through Canadian & eat dinner at
the well this side   had a fine dinner  got home about 510 PM   found all
right  wind from South.

W 20    Leo went & looked at the alfalfa  we then eat dinner & went to town
got ice & mad ice tea when we got home  the Newberry boys came & Leo took
them to Cockrans & set awhile  I stayed at home  had not been extra well
had a hard wind from the South most all day.

T 21    Set at home all day  Leo cleaned up & took the stove down & washed
some things  had ice tea again for dinner   Delia was here  Leo fixed &
planted flours & runners etc  worked on his car PM  wind from the South hard
PM & dust.

F 22    Got up early  fair & nice  Leo don choirs awhile & I wrote here
about 730 AM  Leo worked on the toilet at Delias & then fixed the cow lot &
he went to town to get things for dinner   got saucage rolls stak etc  it
was hot & high wind from South   we went to town PM & to Martins & got
lettuce tomato plants & greens  came home late & Leo took Delia to
schoolhouse at night  high wind.

S 23    Got up late not much well  eat no breakfast  still blowing some from
South  wrote here at 840 AM  Went to town late PM & stayed awhile  then came
home & went up to Toms & had a fish supper  came home late  got sick at
night  Leo made some coffee & I slept till day.  had heart trouble.

S 24    Was sick & got worse & worse till about 2 PM  sent for Dr Guyton
came & eased me  I had the stomache  eche bad gall bladder stoped up he said
took a lot of other medicine & was some better slept well all night.

M 25    Set at home & took the medicine & it kept me sick   Leo got som more
tonicks he said & I took some of it   fair.

T 26    Leo hung screen & worked in garden  fixed fence etc  I took medicine
& set around  still fair  Delia went to town & to Howards in car.

W 27    Quit taking medicine  was too sick & could not eat  Leo plowed &
planted garden across the creek & on this side too   the Powell boy here  he
planted a lot of stuff with hoe etc  Still fair  Dark don planting.

T 28    Had a good rain about 1/2 in before day  Tom came & got some feed
we all went to town then & stayed till about 1 PM  Emmons brought us out &
they went fishing North of Texola in a lake   I stayed at home  it was warm
& nice  I walked around over the alfalfa etc & the garden  Leo & Emmons came
early & Leo went after his car but did not get it  Delia fried the fish but
me nor Leo could not eat any both sick   cool & nice.

F 29    Got up early  Leo went to town  I wrote here at 850 AM  fair & nice
Leo went back to town & Brought out the Emmons girls & took them & Delia to
Riverview to school exercises  fair & nice.

S 30    Set around AM  Leo worked in garden  Delia was here & eat dinner &
brought a cherry pie & a lot of greens & we had a big dinner   Leo took the
woman to Clinton PM   it was nice & fair   Benny Powells came & stayed all
night & Delia helped about choirs.

S 31    Stayed at home all day   Delia got breakfast & cleaned up & the
Benny boy went to McGarrs  I stayed by myself most all day  Leo & Powells
came in late   he had broke a wheel down at George Corneliasons & worked all
evening to get it fixed & then came home  choirs were already don up   had a
good rain about daylight & the creek  got out of bank for 1 hour.

M 1    Got up early  me & Leo carried the mail & came home & he went to fix
his car & I read etc  wrote here at 7 PM   Orion went by  him & the folks
Delia was here  I put the cow out  some wind.

went to help Tom harrow  took the team.

W 3    Set around  Delia cooked a peach pie & eat dinner with us & washed up

gon  high wind & dust.

T 4    Set around & read   Leo took the team to Toms   we went to town PM &
stayed late  high wind & warm  Tom brought the team home late   Delia here
for supper.

F 5    Wind blowed might & day hard  Leo plowed some in garden  we went to
town PM & set around till after 6 PM  came home  drove the cow & calf home
don choirs  had bought cherries & eat a lot of them  Stones left us a pie
still high wind & warm.

S 6    Leo choired around  fixed fence & [hawed?] some & fixed about his car
I read & wrote here at 1245 PM  Delia had mad a pie of cherries & brought it
down  eat dinner & then went to town  set around in carrs most of time
still a high wind from South  came home not much well.

S 7    Got up late  not well  Leo don choirs & went to church & came back
with Mrs Reverts & children  after dinner we all went up to Benomine to
Charley Prescots & set awhile  came home  was puny all day had a good rain
early AM.



M 8     Got up early  Leo don choirs  fixed door & went to fix phone up at
Delias  fine morning   wrote here at 830 AM  set around & read AM  went to
town & set in carrs   talked to Williamson to Rowland  Morris  Lowry
Stewart & others  came by Morrises & the North road & on home   the boys
brought the mars home  set around.

T 9    Not well  Leo cleaned up  churned  picked a chicken & don choirs
around  fixed South window & went off North with team PM   I wrote here at
250 PM  fair & warm 8th & 9th to now   Leo came home early  Mrs Revert came
out at night & some more persons  it was warm & hot   blowed up a little
cool from North about 10 PM.

dinner & I wrote here at 1215 PM  went to town PM  Dark was plowing in
cotton next the pasture  high wind  Leo plowed & got don   Dark worked or

went to town PM  high wind from South.

we went to town  Leo took the children to the River at Shorts  I stayed in
town  saw the races & cracker eating & horse races & the Man Cooper get his
leg broke  talked to Hutchins  McElya  Uncle Tom Sanders  Morris & others
came out home with Buck Martin  Leo came home late  after dark  wind from
South.

S 14    Set at home all day  Leo & Delia went to church & came back 1230 &
got dinner  Delia came down & set most all evening  had a nice time but I
was sick all day  tolerable bad AM but mildly PM  high wind from South but
hot at night.

M 15    Still not able to eat anything  Leo don choirs & then went to town
I wrote here at 905 AM  high wind  Leo went to town  I got mail & read  he
came home early & he was sick & took calomel tablets or compound cathartic
with calomel  & set around all PM  Tom came to Delias & made ice cream &
they brought me some  I had oisters for supper.

T 16    Up early  Leo was running to toilet  he put the Feather bed in
cellar   I wrote here at 8 AM  Leo had taken calomel   we got the mail &
read some & then went to town & I talked to Bro Bell some  came home early
eat dinner & set around   Leo got plow to plow up potatoes   Wind high &
hot.

W 17    Up early   Leo fixing to plow up taters  wrote here at 640 AM  Leo
plowed up two rows of potatoes & put them in cellar   we set around & read &
eat dinner  went to town  talked to Bingham about getting deed cancelled
it was hot & windy  wind from South  hot wind the first very hot wind this
year.

T 18    Up early  Leo fixed lot fence when calf got out  I wrote here at 850
AM  hot allready  Leo [looks like "hawed" but must be "hoed"?] in garden  we
went to town PM & saw Bingham again & got the papers fixed up  set around &
talked to Mr Stewart & Morris & came home early  Leo went to Gage  Delia
came & set awhile at night  some cooler  had rained around & sprinkled in
Erick.

F 19    Got up early  had taken two C. C. tabs with calomel & they don all
right but I could not eat anything   set around  got mail & read  Leo
planted maize North of R R  hot but showered around & cooled off some  wrote
here at 230  Delia put on taters & tea for dinner  Delia tryed to start the
car & then went to town   Leo planted maiz PM & then to town & got  things
for supper  it was hot all day & night  I slept on porch at night  it was so
hot   not well all day.

S 20    Up early  Leo planted maize North  of R R  awful hot  I took a bath
Delia got dinner  shaved & Leo bathed & shaved at 330 PM & I wrote here then
went to town & set around for a while  came home early & it rained a shower
here and a big rain on the head of little creek.
S 21    Set at home AM  Leo went to church  he came home early  we eat &
went & looked at the maize that was just planted & then went to Toms & then
to Red Smiths & home  Orions children & Delia was here  it showered around
some PM & sprinkled here  hot but windy.

big rain in Erick and for a few miles around  set around the rest of the

harrowing  Delia was sick  I went up there awhile PM  Leo cut weed in

home & read the papers PM  Delia still sick  Leo helped Tom chop cotton  it

M 29    Went to town  Leo carried the mail  me & Uncle George Shapley went
to Orions & stayed till after dinner  Orion went fishing an then came home &
Leo disked in the alfalfa land   set around & read.

chicken  I wrote here at 746 AM  hot  Leo plowed up the potatoes & went to

& Leo went at night  hot all day.

Orion was sick  came home  Leo finished disking the garden & then went to
town at night  fair & hot.

F 3    Shaved & wrote here  Leo doing choirs  Dark cutting alfalfa on this
place at 815 AM  went to town & set around  Leo was fixing his baler & he
came back out home & to town & found Josie & Pleaides at Mrs Emons & then I
came by & talked a few words & on home.

S 4    Got up early  fixed around & went to town for Josie & Pleiades &
Pleiades was gon to Sayre & I did not see Josie   set around   Leo played
Dominoes & set around till 3 PM  Came out home & eat & had ice cream up at
Delias  Uncle George Shapley here they then had fire crackers up there &
Watsons was there & Uncle George  I came home & went to bed  it sprinkled
train here PM    had my hair cut.






S 5    Got up early  Leo & Uncle George went to town   Delia came down & set
awhile   Leo came home about 3 PM  set around  it blowed up a sand storm
Josie & Pleiades came out & set awhile  Mrs Roy Emmons brought them out
Josie wanted me to withdraw the Divorce suit & said she ought to have kicked
me out last June when I left.

M 6    Set around  Leo helped to start the baler for Dark & we then went to
town & stayed there awhile  Pleiades & Josie were going out to Warrens  we
came home  don choirs  cooked Beef & peas & had a good dinner  this was my
birth day  Stones came out & set awhile at night  Delia had a crowd of
Sunday school children out with her at night  rained around but not here.

T 7    Went to town early & set awhile  got the mail at the office  Leo
found Josie & Pleiades & Pleiades came out & eat dinner & Delia came down &
eat with us  we then took Pleiades & Josie to the train & they went to
Shamrock   came home & Leo went to chop cotton at Toms & I set at home &
read & wrote here at sundown  real hot & raining in sight but not here  Dark
finished bailing here about 4 PM on this place.

W 8    Set around & read   Delia dressed a chicken & put it on   Leo & Tom
hauled hay on Leo place all day  Tom eat dinner here   Delia went to town in
car  we all went to Texola at night to see the calf man   fair & hot all day
not well.

T 9    Got up early  washed the dishes & me & Delia shelled peas & she put
them on   Leo went to Smiths about plow & then to town  got peas at Geneva
Clucks & then planted some irish potatoes   we eat & he went to haul hay on
North place  I wrote here at 240 PM  real hot  Leo hauled hay  him & Tom
went to Toms & had ice cream at night  got home late.

Leo went too at noon  Leo plowed his maize PM  it was hot   Delia came by &
set awhile & again at night  Dark came & set on porch awhile & got check &
talked some   they got don bailing at 3 PM & got wagon & hay hook.




S 11    Got up early  washed dishes & swept up  wrote to M & Ward & Co &
wrote here   it was cloudy & som cooler  Leo went to plowing in maize  Dark
brought the baler home & got the wagon at 825 AM  Leo finished the maize
before dinner  went to town PM  Renolds phoned to Bill about the lots  came
home early  eat supper at Delias & it was cool from East  they had rain from
Delhi East.

put them on & also the beef  Leo got plow & mule & went to breaking his

T 16    Leo plowed alfalfa land all day & went to see Geneva at night  Delia
cleaned a chicken & put it on & went to town & got meat  ice & other things
she went to hunt peaches PM & set here awhile two or three times  I don

F 17    Wrote here at 730 AM   Leo went to plowing   it was cool from East
Leo plowed all day  I set at home  Tom Powers came PM  Mrs Powers went
Delias  fine day  most all day.

the garden  he went up to Delias & they had a talk & some trouble  we all

the hotest up to now  Mrs Reverts boys came out & stayed all night  Wind
from S W & hot.

was here awhile PM. Me & Delia went to town & I saw Birge  & others it was a
big day there.

hot  Delia came down & we had a talk about affairs in general & we disagreed
a good deal & she came back later & we smoked the pipe of peace  Leo had gon
to Toms at night.

T 21    Went to town with Leo  we saw Birge & others  came home  eat dinner
&  Leo took the Smith mule home  after loading Tom with some corn & then he
mowed the weeds off Delias yard and I wrote here at 630 PM.

W 22    Went to town  Leo phoned to Shamrock & could only get Renolds the
lawyer  we then came home & Leo finished plowing the alfalfa land & mowed
around the house the weeds around the house  he don choirs & then went to
Sallies & Martins about the deed to the land  Delia wanted a deed.

T 23    Went to town early  saw Delia set around AM  came home  Leo eat
dinner & we went to Sallies  I eat some soup & then went to town with Cluck
& set around all evening till late   came home  it was hot  sent the ear
phone back to Wards   Delia went to Sayre to see a lawyer.

F 24    Leo went to Stones & they were to take a trip  Delia came down &
talked awhile and I wrote here at 745 AM  it was hot  set at home all day &
read etc  Leo came home early.

S 25    Leo took plow back to Galaways & we eat dinner & went to town  set
in cars most of time  talked to Grandpaw Powers & others  lots of people
there  it was hot & hot wind from S. W.  very hot & dry.

S 26    Set at home  not well  smoked too much  Mr Richardson came home with
Leo & Leo had to get most all of the dinner  I could not eat but drank tea
we set around & talked awhile  it sprinkled rain & blowed up cool  we went &
looked at the alfalfa & crop & then to Wilhelms & got some peaches & grapes
& came by town & out home  cooled off some  was sick all night.

M 27    Still sick   Leo set around  I could not eat  it was cool & showered
some  Leo went to town PM  read the papers some  was better late & eat some
soup  Slept all night  it was cool & cloudy  Delia came down & read the
papers some & put on some soup an chicken to make soup   my left leg hurt
all morning.

11 or 12 AM  Leo went to town  Delia came down & read the papers  I eat some
chicken & soup & read the Sunday Dallas news & wrote here at 330 PM  still
cloudy  Leo came home late.

W 29    Set around & read some AM  Leo worked in garden  planting things &
got peas & put them on  we went to town PM & came home early  Leo took Delia
to the train at 1 PM & I set at home  he came home early & met the train &
brought Delia out at 8 PM.

T 30    It had rained a big rain & the creek was out of banks & over the
alfalfa   Leo went to Toms  we had oisters for dinner & then went to town

F 31  Got up early   Leo went to town early  Tom came & got the mars  I got
no mail  set here & smoked & wrote here at 11 AM  Leo came home & we eat &
set around & then went to Wilhelms & got some grapes & then went on to town
& set there the rest of the evening  came come early  Leo don choirs & went
up to Delias & she mad him a offer to sell the place  it was cool all day  I
wore my swetter all day  fair & mice.

Diary for August 1925

S 1  Got up early & went with Leo  he carried the mail & we got back 1130 AM
& came home  eat dinner & read & wrote here at 150 PM  Went to town & set in
cars & talked PM  Leo went to Delias & settled their afairs or they agreed
too at least at night he came home as I went to bed at 930 PM.

S 2  Got up early  Leo killed a chicken & don choirs & then went to church
I read Cappers & wrote here at 10 AM  Leo eat dinner at Emmans & came home
about 3 P. M.  Delia & him had another split up & then made it up about
dark.

M 3  We got up early & took Delia to town & then took Bingham & Elmer Emans
to Sayre  they settled at last after much wrangling & I set in court house
till noon  was not well  came home on train & came out with Alford Brooks
Leo came in early  Delia got a divorce & Leo bought her interest in the
place.   Dark comenced to cut alfalfa on this place.

T 4  Went with Leo & carried the mail  got some grapes at Pracks  eat & set
around   Leo got up team & went to harrowing his alfalfa land on North side
Josie & Bud & Pleiades came and we set here till Leo came late rather.  Dark
cut alfalfa.






W 5  Leo carried the mail  we all went to town  Josie  Bud & Pleiades & sold
the town lots 9, 10, 11 T 12 Blk 41  Original Erick to Otis Young for
$850.00 & mad a deed to him & & signed other contracts to make it good  etc
came home eat dinner & set around & talked & then went to town  got fruit
jars.  Went to Wilhelms & got 2 1/2 bushel of peaches & came home & set &
talked & then they all went to preaching but me & I was not well & set
around  could not eat  had a nice time & all right  rather  warm.

T 6  Set at home & pealed peaches  Josie & Pleiades caned them  Leo went to
town but came back early & helped me eat dinner & went to town & the
abstract had to be Dr'd some & we then came home  me & Leo & I wrote here at
330 PM  It rained a shower here & at town  Leo had to tend to Toms things
Delia was down & set awhile & got a chicken.

F 7    Got up early  Leo don choirs & tended to Tom Powers things & then
went to town  came back  we eat & went to town & he went to Sayre to get an
abstract to this place  I set in town & talked & walked around till he came
back & we came home & he don Toms choirs & we then set around  it was
raining all around  it rained a shower in Erick & I think sprinkled here
cool & pleasant.

S 8  Got up early  eat & Leo tended to Toms things  it was fair but a big
due wrote here at 8 AM  Leo worked on well & mower & in garden & don other
choirs  had our first water mellon  had chicken for dinner & dinner was late
Leo took a bath  I wrote here at 240 PM  We went to town  went to se Stagler
Dr'd my neck   Set around talked to Mrs Bill Johnston some  came home early
& Leo Tended to Toms things & don choirs  looked like from N but no rain
only som sprinkles.

S 9  Set at home  was not well  Leo Tended to  Toms things & then went to
church  came home early  we eat dinner & set around & Leo walked over the
farm  most of it  Martin Stone & little Martin Stone came out & set awhile &
we then went to Toms & Leo tended to his things & we came home & Leo went to
church  my feet had bothered a good deal today.


M 10  Got up early  eat & Leo tended to Toms things & then went to disk some
in alfalfa land  it was cloudy & a big due but cleared some by 9 AM when I
wrote here  Leo got don disking & fixed the mower & started to cut weeds  &
alfalfa in pach by garden  broke the mower toung & fixed it & then mowed the
peace of ground  Toms folks came & got some peas  they had got back  from
their vacation  Dark baled hay on this place all day & got most don.

T 11  Leo don choirs around & then went to town  McGar hauled hay from this
place to the barn  3 loads AM  Leo trying to drive the mars up at 12 noon
when this was wrote  Mrs Reverts boy worked for Leo  him & Tom puting hay in
the shed  the McGar boy & another had some trouble about putting hay in the
barn for Dark because they would not leave an opening Leo was sick  they got
don baling.

W 12  Dark came & him & Leo moved the hay that was the trouble & they
finished puting up all the hay  both of them & put the baler away  Leo
Disked & put up hay AM  Tom disked & Leo fixed the garden fence PM & Leo
went to church at night  it was hot & windy & dry to day.

T 13  Got up early  wrote to Myrtie & Frank & to Josie & sent her a check &
wrote here  Leo went to disking  fair & cool at 850 AM  when this was wrote
Leo Disked on till about 5 PM & then Disked the garden & potato pach & took
the disk home & fixed & went to church at night.   Leo cut some weeds in
garden.

to town set in Geo Stewarts car  talked to Walter Galaway Camell & others
Came home early  don choirs.  Leo caned some peaches AM.

S 16  Got up early shaved & went to church at protracted meeting  came home
eat dinner & I set around  Leo said he was going to look for peaches  he
came home early  & don choirs & went to church   he brought out a paper and
a letter from  Josie   high wind & hot from South.

M 17  Set around AM  Lee Watsons boys brought us a mush mellon  Leo went to
town  high wind again from South   wrote here at 1220 & Leo jus back  Eat
dinner  went to Johnstons & then to Pracks to see about peaches then went to
town & set in car where they drawed for prises  Barbra don the drawing
they set there till most night & then came home late & stayed here  hot &
dry wind from S.  ["Barbra" is no doubt to Barbra Glenn Morrison, DOB Feb
1,1917, dau of Orion Morrison and grand dau of Harvey.]

the mail  I went with him & we brought Orions children out  eat dinner &
pealed & caned peaches  Delia helped us some  Leo went to town & took the
children home & went to church   hot & some wind but not so bad hardly.

W 19  Leo don choirs & went to town & got back by 12 noon  got dinner &
worked on mower  Tom came & the 3 least children & he got oil   Leo went to
mowing in pach this sid of creek at 510 PM  I wrot here at 540 PM  hot &

about hay  went to town PM.

hay from the small paches  we went to town PM  I saw Thyman & Otis & set in
cars  came home early  Leo went to church   hot & windy & wilty for crops.


S 23  Leo went to town & to Orions for dinner  set at home all day  read
some in Star  hot & windy  Leo went to church at night.

M 24  Got up early  Leo dressed a chicken the dog had caught   windy & dry
wrote here at 950 AM  set around & read till 2 or 3 PM   went to  town to
see about the lot sale  Leo got it fixed at last  I guess   came home early
had put red [percipaty?] on my side  but it did not help the pain   had a
funeral in town   Kelleys daughter had had an operation for apendacitus at
McCrarys hospital   windy & dry.

T 25  Got up early wrote here at 8 AM  cooler & some clouds  Went to town &
finished up the lot business & got the money & a $250.00 note from Otis
Young  came home late.

W 26  Went to town & came back for dinner  went back & bought a pair of
shoes $6.95  pants 4.95 at the Dixie  came home early  the north road.

T 27  Don choirs  went around By Toms & looked at cotton & alfalfa  then
went on to town  had wrote a letter to Z A M  [would be his son Zenas A
Morrison]got hair cut & socks & shirt 3.50 at Dixie  came home  eat dinner &
Toms came & we eat a mellon & then we went to town  Tom went with us & came
back with us & his Pa & one of  John Wills boys hauled hay & Johnston grass
PM   Leo went back to Woodmans loge at night.

F 28  Got up early & shaved & wrote here at 915 AM  it had rained a shower
before we got up  we went to town  Leo got sick  I got socks & belt & got my
coat cleaned & we came home & he gathered beans peas & mellons & I changed
clothes & took a bath & packed my things ready to go   the wind was rather
high but not much hot  wrote here at 410 PM.





S 29  Got up early  me & Leo left here at 620 AM  went by Clucks  then to
Pracks & got 1/2 bu of peaches  went by Sweetwater & then to Wheeler  got
some ham sandwich  went by Mobetie & to Chiaune[?]  stoped a while  was sick
went on to Spearman & out to Franks  no one at home  set around till they
came & it rained a big rain or rather two rains.

S 30  Set around AM  went to the McBride School house & wached them play
ball till it rained  Leo went to Davidsons to see the boy that got hurt by a
horse falling on him  we went after him & then came on to Franks.

M 31  Leo went home & left me and I set around all day.

Diary for Sep 1925

T 1  From the first to the 20 I was at F A Shapleys & while there there was
plenty of rain  I went to Spearman the 3  to the boys & girls fair  went to
Guymon twice  once with Harvey to see the Dr & once with Frank to see about
repairs & bring Bulah [dau of Frank and Myrtie Shapley] home   went one
Sunday to Becks with Mr Higgs & in all had a nice time  came home the 20
met Leo at Canadian & me & Frank Walling came on home with him  found all
right  The hot winds had nearly ruined crops here from the 1st to the 10 or
13 & it rained a shower the 13th & was cooler afterward but the cotton had
shed lots of bowles.

W 21  Went to town early  me & Leo & Frank Waling  I came out & was sick for
a while  we took Frank to his uncles  Mr Watson near Texola & then went to
town & back   it had rained some about 2 PM.

T 22  It rained some along most all day  we did not get to move.

W 23  It rained all day & we set at home & read etc  the creek was out of
bank   some slow rain & cold from North.


T 24  Still raining & rained all day  Scot & Dark both came  Dark bought the
stove 15.00  we moved about 3 or 4 PM  but it was still raining  Tom Powel
helped move   we got here all right but it was cold & wet   Leo fixed up as
best he could & took Tom hom   the negroes moved in the old house.

F 25  Leo worked all morning fixing things around the house & in the house &
then went to town & got a lot of groceries & then he walked all over the
place & we had a light shower  enough to stop the negroes from picking
cotton.

S 26  Set around  AM  Leo went to town & mad arangements about sowing some
wheat   I went to town PM & walked all over the busines part of town   Leo
got shaving material  Safty etc  We came home & he went back to town   it
was fair and a big crowd in town.   Dark took the first bale of cotton off
got 25.

S 27  Set at home & shaved AM  Leo went to town & to Walt Nicholes & bought
a cow & calf  we then went to Powers  East of Cook ranch & found him sick
came home & Leo went to church at night  fair & warm.

M 28  Got up before day & eat   Leo went to work  & I wrote here at 715 AM
fair & warm   I was sick & had a chill & went to bed   Leo got ready to sow
wheat   got drill & fixed it & got wheat from Howeard   he got a cow  AM
from Walt Nichols  I set at home & read some  not well.  Scot one bale  AM
2nd.

T 29  Got up early   Leo went to sowing wheat & I read & put on dinner   Leo
went to town first   I washed & dryed the dishes   it was fair & warm   Leo
sowed wheat all day & was tired   I set around there was a man broke his
wagon down with cotton on it & he stayed here all night   fair & warm  I got
som tomatoes & put out eggs for a day.




W 30  Got up early  the break man still here but he missed his breakfast  I
washed the dishes & cleaned part of the stove & wrote here at 950 AM  Leo
sowing wheat  went and graveled  potatoes & put them on & read etc  set
around PM   Dark came & exchanged stoves  Leo sowed wheat   it clouded up &
he brought the wheat home & it looked like rain  but did not rain all night
Dark took off one bale of cotton for self    gathered on the middle ridge.
Dark 1 bale  the 4th  bale this year.

T 1  Got up early  shelled peas & put them on & washed up all the dishes &
pans & potvesals  got don at 945 AM   it was raining & Leo came in wet & it
rained a hard rain from about 925 to 11 AM   Leo went to town at 130 & I
wrote here at 140 PM   it had faired off but was cloudy in the North  I set
at home   Leo went back to loge at night.  Dark took 5th bale to town  it
was his cotton.

Tom & wife came & got some stove vessels  the ground was wet  Tom brought us

papers & wrote here at 415 PM   Leo had just came in from work   Dark took
off the 6th bale of cotton about 2 PM  Leo went to town  I stayed at home.

S 4  Set at home all day  not much well  Leo went to church & then back to
town PM  & to Toms at night  Sallie brought us some cake & pie & got
mustard.  First norther this year.

M 5  Set at home all day   was sick   Leo sowed wheat all day   Dark took
off the 7th bale of cotton from the red hills PM & the niggers went to
picking on the 65 acre piece on the west of this place  fair & warm.  Dark
took the  7th Bale of cotton off at 5 PM.


T 6  Just a little weak  Leo sowed wheat all day  Dark took the 8th bale of
cotton off about 12 noon   the lst from the 65 acre piece  it blowed up from
the North again  I wrote here at 335 PM.

W 7  Dark took the 9th bale off cotton   this was of Scotts cotton.  set at
home all day  it was misting some & cool   Leo went to town & brought out Mr
Morris  we eat dinner & Leo sowed wheat PM   Morris went back to town with
some one on the road   I was not well  Dark took the 10th bale off which was
two bales today  the negroes picked all day  it was still cold.

set at home all day   Leo came back at dinner & went back to town PM  Harvey
had come up & he stayed late  it was real cold all day & night.  Dark took

cold  wrote here at 1140 AM  Leo sowed wheat all day  Dark took off two bale

Martin & Martin Stone came out at night & set & played 42 till 10 PM  still
cold. [Harvey Robinson was the brother of Sallie and the son of Rebecca
Elizabeth Robinson, nee Harvey,  Harvey Morrison's second wife]

S 10  Still cold   Leo sowed wheat AM & then went to town & stayed all
evening   I stayed at home all day  cold from South   Dark took one bale of
cotton off AM  me & Leo went to Orions & eat supper & Harvey's & Sallies &
Genevia was there & they played 42 till after 10 & then we came home.

soup & then went to Toms  I wrote here at 4 PM  it had faired off som & was
warmer  was not well  Leo came home about 6 PM  the cow was gon.





M 12  Got up late  big due  Leo went to town & came back & then went again
to see about the land deal  I set at home & read & eat dinner at 230  wrote
here at 245 PM  Leo went to Sayre & fixed up the land deals again  then
sowed wheat awhile & fixed fence etc.   Dark took 1 bale off today  13th.

T 13  It was cloudy & foggy all day but warm  Leo sowed wheat all day  I
took a bath PM & sewed on buttons & washed out socks  was feeling rather
better  wrote here at 545 PM   Dark took off two bales of cotton  14th &

W 14  It rained all day very lightly  Leo put up heatter  cut weeds in the
road & don choirs  I set in house all day   was not well   Leo got some
irish & sweet potatoes out of paches  Will Galaway  son & Mr Harris came at
night to see about renting.

T 15  Still cloudy  Harris came out & looked the place over & Leo went to
town & came back about noon & went to sowing wheat PM at 2   I wrote here at
230 PM   Dark took 16th bale of cotton off  Leo sowed till late it sprinkled

F 16  It was raining a fine mist   Leo fixed road between here & the old
house & then went to town & got a load of coal & came back just as a rain
came up from the North & a norther but it was light   Frank Waling came by
twice & went home  I wrote here at 5 PM   it faired off & sun shone out
wind from North.

S 17  Cloudy & raining slow  rained & cool all day  Leo went to town PM &
got groceries etc  I set by the stove  it was cool.

S 18  Cool but mostly fair   blowed up cold 4 PM  Frank & Lois came & eat
dinner & Orions all came out & they played 42 etc   I was not well but we
all had a fine time   got cold at night  Leo went to church.


M 19  Set around & read   washed the dishes &  Leo sowed wheat  it was fair
& a big frost & freeze ice 1/4 in thick on tub   Dark took off the 17th bale
of cotton AM  and the 18th PM about 4 PM  Leo sowed all day & got along
fine.

well   Dark took of three Bales of cotton to day  they were picking by &
this sid of the old house   fair & nice all day  wrote here at 5 PM.

W 21  Got up early  Leo went & got seed wheat & sowed the rest of the day  I
set around & took calomell   Dark took of Two bales one AM & one about 4 PM
it was the last of the cotton on this place   fair & warm  wrot here at 4 PM
Cluck & Caunon [?] & the boys came out & put up a temporary Radio at night &
Leo tryed it out   fair.

T 22  Was sick all day  had taken a small dose of Salpatica   Leo sowed some
wheat PM  Sallie & Martin & Genevia & the children came out & set awhile &
brought a pie   fair & nice & warm.  Dark took of two bales of cotton.

F 23  Took a good dose of Salpatica & it worked all day & night   Leo sowed
wheat most all day  the Boys came out late & put up a radio aeriel or wire
eat some bread & milk  the first I had eat lately  fair  Dark took off 2
bale of cotton.

S 24  Bowels in bad shape but feeling better  it was cold & cloudy  wind
from North  set at home  cleaned up some & felt all right  Leo don choirs AM
& went to town PM  I wrote here at 5 PM  Leo had just got home & brought me
a cake from Geneva  faired up some & sun shone out.

M 26  Not well  set home all day  Leo fixed frame to haul maize & went to
town  it was fair & nice  he went & got corn at Mixsons & don choirs   Dark
took a bale of cotton.

had sold a bale of cotton at 12.75  I set around all day.

W 4  Foggy AM  cleared off & Leo gathered maize all day after 930  got mail
& read & took a bath PM  fair & warm all day  Dark gathering maize with 3

T 5  Fine & fair but wind from the North & cool  wrote here at 8 AM  Leo cut
or headed maiz all day  two loads  it looked like rain late PM & did rain

inch or more of water fell slowly most of the time  Leo unloaded the maize &

F 27  Frank & Myrtie & Gladus & all came out & eat dinner & we had a fine
time  Sallie was here too & Orions came in the afternoon  a real fine time
I was not very well but up all day.

S 28  They all went o Genevas for dinner  I could not go  they came back
here & stayed all night here. Frank & Myrtie did   still fair.

S 29  We all went to Texola to Franks for dinner & had a fine time  came
home late & had a blow out in sight of home  fine & fair.

M 30  Stayed at home all day   Leo went & got cottonseed & he got the chair
& beauro etc  Leo worked around the house & garden.

Diary for Dec 1925

T 1  Set at home & read etc  Leo hauled a load of loose hay & don choirs
around.

W 2  Set around & was real sick  Leo took a load of hay to town PM  it was
still fair & nice & warm.


T 3  Leo put up chair  I was all ok this morning  Leo went to town  it
blowed up cold from North about 9 AM  I wrote here about 4 PM  cold & cloudy
blowed hard all day & harder at night but  not freezing.

F 4  Set at home all day  was all right  read papers   the wind was hard
from North all day  Leo stayed at home most all day.

S 5  Fine morning but cold  clear & fair but some clouds later  was all
right  Leo don choirs AM & then went to town about 130 PM  I wrote here at 4
PM  very little wind  Leo came home early.

S 6  Set at home all day  Leo went to preaching AM  Lois & Frank came here
to tell us good by  they were going home tomorrow   was not well all day
fine day   Leo sent back to preaching at night.

M 7  Som men came to look at the place & Leo showed them around   he
finished sowing wheat PM  fair & nice & rather warm.

T 8  Fair & nice all day  Leo went to sale at Walter Floyds plac & bought a
pair of mules  young one & a lister  Tom & Mrs Powell was here awhile late
PM   set at home all day was well.

W 9  Frosty  fair & nice  Leo went for his mules etc to the Floyd place &
had not got back at 3 PM when this was wrote   Leo & Tom got back about 330
PM with mules & we eat dinner & set around   fair & nice.

T 10  Got cold AM & has a chill   Leo in town all day & came home in a ford
fair & nice & warm all day.

F 11  Still fair & nice   Leo don choirs & then went to town   Dark got don
picking cotton on this place about 11 AM  I set at home & read & wrote here
at 230 PM  Leo came home early.

S 12  Set at home all day  Leo worked around home & went to Toms AM  him &
Benny went to town PM  I got along fine & took a walk to the barn & old
house & around PM & was tired   still fair & warm.

S 13  It was cloudy but warm   Leo don choirs & then went to church at 1050
AM  I wrote here at 1115 AM  set at home all day  Leo came home early &
brought some papers   some cloudy & wind got up at night early  Cold at
night & windy.

M 14  My bowells running off   Set at home  all day  my bowels run off 4 or
5 times  Leo stayed around   it was real cold & high wind   very cold
probably the coldest day so far  & me sick.

T 15  Still cold   Leo don choirs & went to town & then to the sale at
Johnstons  I set at home  bowels still running of bad & getting pretty weak
the wind layed some about night & Leo went off.

W 16  Still cold   had moderated a whole lot   Leo went to help Tom & I
stayed to churn & make soop & let the stove burn too high & worked for 2
hours to remove evidence of guilt but failed.

T 17  Leo stayed & cleaned up sut till 2 PM   Then went to town & he went
back at night to loge  I set at home & read etc.

F 18  Leo went to town & then to sale  came home early  I was at home all
day   fair & nice.

S 19  Leo went to town on a trade to sell the place & stayed all day but did
not sell  came home  don choirs and eat & milked & then took Sutton & boys
home  The McGarr boy had run into their car & bloodied the up    I was not
well especially in the evening  it blowed up from north but no cold.


S 20  Very cold & high wind all day   Leo stayed at home all day  I had the
belly ache some but got along tolerably  real cold at night  ice in house
before bed time.

M 21  Cold but fair   Leo don choirs & went to Suttons  Walling & an other
man came   I read & wrote here at 230 PM  Leo had gon to town  he came home
late.

T 22  Set at home was all right  eat hearty   Leo gon most all day to town &
other places  it was fair but cold from North.

W 23  Leo went to town & to Suttons and to other places & to Darks sale &
home & set at home at night   it was fair & rather warmer  I was all right
all day.

T 24  Leo went to town early & took a hen to Annie May & got some things  we
both took a bath PM  it was fair & warm  Leo went to town P.M. & again at
night to the Christmas tree.  [ Annie May (correctly "Anna Mae") was my
mother and the wife of Orion.]

F 25  Got up early  got ready & me & Leo went to Shamrock & eat dinner with
Pleiades & Bud & then visited at Venuses & Bud drove us over the town East
North & West  the day was fine & we sure had a good time   got home before
night & Toms folks came down & they  pulled off som fireworks   I was tired
& went to bed.

S 26  Set around AM  went to town PM & looked around in the stors  bought
some underwear of Rook   got it for wool & it was all cotton  came home
early.

S 27  Went to Orions & stayed all day  had a nice time  Mable Bennett came &
they played 42 PM  it was cold   the coldest day so far   said to be 2 below
zero at the girarge [?]  got home early  cold & high wind.

M 28  Set around all day   Leo went to the sale at Stricklands   bought a
mule & som others things & a pair of Big black horses & got them home   I
went down & looked at them   it was still cold but from the South.

T 29  Set at home  was not as well as usual   Leo went 10 mile East to a
sale & bought some plows or cultivators & a mule & a lot of junk  he got
home late but don choirs & went to Stricklands for his wagon but it was gon
still cold from South.

W 30  Got up early  very early  Leo went with his car & got his wagon & got
back by 945 AM & I wrote here at 10 AM   Leo then went down North of Delhi &
got some cultivators  a lister & a young mule   $20.00 mule    it was cool
AM but fair.

T 31  Got up early   Leo don choirs & then went to sale at Hickeys  bought a
stalk cutter & a few other things   I set at home & read etc  it was still
cool & froze ice a little but not bad like it had been.
