BELL. Ivan Bell of near Doxey, was killed in action October 9th. He belonged to the 144th Inf., 36th Div. Ivan went to Camp Bowie, May 27th, and left for France in July. He was about twenty-five years old, and was the only son of Mrs. Ella (sic) Bell. His father, John Bell, was killed in an auto accident January 10th 1916. (22 Sep 1921, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Word has been received that the body of Ivan Bell, killed in France, will reach Doxey some time Friday, and the funeral services will be held at the Doxey-Sayre cemetery at 3:30 Sunday afternoon. Officers of the local American Legion post have taken hold of this matter, and will have charge at the funeral. All ex-soldiers are requested to assemble in front of the Headlight office at 2:30 on Sunday afternoon, and it is especially desired that as many as possible of the boys wear their uniforms. Citizens of Sayre are asked to turn out with their automobiles, to the end that there is plenty of transportation for soldier boys from this city to the cemetery. Autos are requested to park between the courthouse and Broadway. The officers of the local will be on hand and direct the formation of the line. While the greater portion of his life was spent on the farm, .......... (too dark to read), he was considered a Sayre boy, and it is hoped that there will be a large attendance at this ceremony. While the ex-soldiers are urged to be present, it should not be understood that every citizen is not also expected to be present. With weather conditions favorable, it is expected that this will be the largest gathering of the kind ever in this section.
