WALTER HARDY. Born September 16, 1895 Died September 21, 1918. Walter Barnett Hardy was born September 16th, 1895 in St. Clair County, Mo., moved with his mother, stepfather and brothers to Custer County, Okla., in December 1910, was converted at the age of 19 and united with the Baptist church at Sooner, Okla. He remained a member of that church until his death, September 21, 1918, which was caused from bronchial pneumonia, while serving his country in France. He was called to service May 23, 1918. Was in Third Battery F.A.R.R.A. P. O. 778 American Ex. F., landing in France August 3rd. He leaves a mother and five brothers to mourn his loss. His father died when he was six months old. No Walter to come to cheer the home, So without my dear son in this world I must roam, Oh, how dark the way when they took him away, But darker still when I learned he must stay. Across the water in France far away, No, only the mortal must stay there still, For Walter is gone with Jesus to dwell. Written by his mother, Mrs. Ella Selleck. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
