(8 Nov 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF CORBETT HARRALL (sic) Last Friday J. A. Harrall received a telegram that was a shock to the entire community. It announced that his son Corbett Harrall, 16 years of age, a member of Company L, 153 Infantry, stationed at Little Rock, had met his death from a gun-shot wound and his remains were being shipped to Canute. One brother, Jack Harrall was notified at his ranch near Tucumcari, N. M., and arrived here Saturday, but Calvin Harrall, who is a member of Company M, 19th Infantry at Fort Sam Houston, was out on special duty in the oil fields and could not be located. The funeral was held at the Canute Church Sunday, the funeral services being conducted by Dr. Jester of Elk City, who delivered a very appropriate and impressive funeral sermon. Both on account of the prominence of the family and the fact that Corbett Harrall was the first to fall of the boys from Canute, who have gone from here in their country's service, the funeral was the largest ever held in Canute. ---------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
