L. and C. B. Jennings, Sweetwater, Okla., was born in Hill County, Tex, Feb. 26th, 1896, and was brought to Oklahoma by his parents Jan. 1, 1898, where he grew to manhood. He enlisted in the first call from Roger Mills County in October 1917. He went first to Camp Travis, Tex., where he remained until the following April, when he was transfered to Camp Hancock, Geo.; after a short stay there he was sent to Upton, N. Y., and from there to France. He was a member of Co. G. 357 Inft. but after leaving the Depot Brigade, was transfered to Co. T. 111 Inft. 28th Division, where he served until reported killed in action, in France, Oct. 6th, 1918. He died serving his country and while his loss is deplored by his parents and friends yet we all have the consilation (sic) that he gave his life in a noble cause and that he and the others that made the supreme sacrifice are due and will receive the honor not only of his native country but of all the world. He was a good boy and a brave soldier. He was a member of the Woodman of the World lodge, and his father has the honor of having the Secretary of the Sweetwater Masonic Lodge from it's instalation (sic). The aged father and mother have the sincere sympathy of the Democrat and a host of friends. We as a community pay homage to that beautiful, honorable and glorious, "Golden Star," that will forever shine from their home and from the pages of all coming history. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
