Charlie Marion Abercrombie was born June 12, 1901 in Altus to Harriett and Barton Abercrombie and died Sunday in the High Plains Baptist Hospital at the age of 94. Charlie married Olivia (Downs) on December 23, 1923 in Elk City. He was ordained to the Southern Baptist ministry in 1923, and was active in that work for 65 years. He taught school for 33 years. He attended Oklahoma Baptist University and has a bachelor and master degree in teaching from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Churches Charlie pastored include New Hope at Carl, Lowell, Shiloh (south of Erick), Fairview, Hope, Star Velley and Vinson in Harmon County; Reed, Plainview, Ural, Delhi and Erick as associate pastor. Schools where he taught include Opal, Elm Valley, Carl and Vinson in Oklahoma; and Wheeler and Briscoe in Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and eight sisters. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday at the Erick First Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Charles Graves, and assisted by Rev. Allen Norris. Interment will be in the Erick Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Olivia Abercrombie of the home; two daughters, Glenda Staton and her husband Donald of Amarillo, Texas, Dorla Graves and her husband Charles of Oklahoma City; one son, Charles and his wife Mary Abercrombie of Amarillo, Texas; one sister, Edith Holland of Erick; two sisters in law, Phara Strawn of Cordell, Jackie Saulsbury of Weatherford; one brother George Williams of Erick; ten grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
