Allen Funeral services for John Allen will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Martin Funeral Chapel with Bro. Dwight Holland and Rev. Billy Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Hill Cemetery in Hammon. John was born on March 27, 1903 in Granite, and died Monday at the age of 87. He moved with his parents to Beeville, Tex. Then they moved to a farm just north of Elk City in 1911. In 1919 they settled in the Herring Community. He was married to Annie Bell Lackey on February 11, 1923 in the Herring School House. She and Mr. Allen have been married for over 67 years. They have farmed and ranched there in the Herring Community his entire working life. He enjoyed the rodeo activities in Hamon(sic) where he helped in organizing the arena and rodeo. Survivors include his wife Annie of the home, one daughter Imogene Walker of Hammon, two brothers, Bill Allen of Elk City and Jessie Allen of Hammon, three sisters, Addie Spurlock of Elk City, Murl Gwartney of Hammon, and Irene Lingburger of California; two grandsons, Jack Walker of Sayre and Kenneth Walker of Hammon; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild.
