J. Armstrong Is Called by Death Funeral services for Andrew Jackson Armstrong, 77-year-old retired Elk City farmer who died February 19 at his home, 510 North Main Street, were held February 20 at the Baptist church with Rev. H. L. Janes, pastor, officiating. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Walter and J. T., both of Elk City; a daughter, Mrs. Bessie Maude Spitzer of Cheyenne, and seven grandchildren. Burial was in Red Hill cemetery at Hammon with Savage funeral directors in charge of arrangements. The Cheyenne Star, Thursday, February 28, 1946 pg 4 Kiowa News A PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES Andrew Jackson Armstrong, a pioneer resident of Kiowa community passed away Tuesday afternoon, February 19, 1946 at his home in Elk City. Funeral services were held by Rev. H. L. Jones in the first Baptist church. Mr. Armstrong homesteaded a farm in this vicinity in 1894. He lived on it until 1944 and owned it at his death. He moved to Elk City two years ago due to ill health. He was born January 16, 1869 at Bentonville, Ark. After coming to this county he married Miss Edna May Wood. To this union were born three children, Walter Bessie and J. T. Mrs Armstrong preceded him in death in 1914. In 1931 he married Mrs. Cordelia Creach. He is survived by his widow and all three children, Walter and J. T. of Elk City and Bessie (Mrs Solon(sic) Spizer(sic)) at Rose Hill. Burial was made in the Red Hill cemetery at Hammon. Those from this vicinity who attended the A. J. Armstrong funeral at Elk City Thursday afternoon, included, Lee Driver, J. E. Linville, Mr. and Mrs. Audie Luttrell, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ford, Oscar Ford and May Lacey.
