(Oct 1918, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): At the age of 23 years, Mr. C. R. Aswell, pharmacist at the Richards drug store and one of Carter's most prominent citizens and business men, died on Thursday evening of last week, of pneumonia following Spanish influenza. Mr. Aswell had already had an attack of influenza previous to his last sickness but had seemingly recovered from same and was at work in the store when he was taken ill again. After his relapse or second attack of the disease it was not long before it was seen that he was going to have a very bad spell as the disease kept growing worse until the fatal pneumonia developed. As stated above the deceased was one of our most popular citizens. He possessed a tact it seemed, of making everybody his friend and he will certainly be missed by the people of our town and surrounding country. Not only will he be missed as an honest, straight forward citizen of the town, but he will be missed as a special friend of a very large percent of the people of the town and community. Mr. Aswell was a Master Mason and was buried by the members of that fraternity, interment taking place in the Carter cemetery. Rev. Campbell was the minister in charge and eulogized the character of the deceased in a very appropriate manner. After burial the grave was covered with beautiful flowers by loving relatives and friends. CARD OF THANKS. We wish to thank our many friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness and death of our dear husband, son and brother, Mr. C. R. Aswell. Mrs. Myrtle Aswell, Mrs. R. S. Aswell, Mrs. Kilpatrick, Dr. and Mrs. E. S. Kilpatrick. (Research: WWI Draft Registration Card: Clarence R. Aswell, born 20 Sep 1895, Monroe, La; registered 1917, Mangum, Greer co, Ok. C. R.
