Ward Lockett BACK was born July 2,1913 in McLean,Texas and died Sunday morning at the age of 79.When he was 4 years old,the family moved to carter,where he graduated from Carter High School and entered Southwestern Teacher's College in Weatherford and earned his Master's degree at Western State College in Colorado.He started his teaching career in a consolidated school named Mozelle near Abilene,Texas and then to Sweetwater,Oklahoma.,and then began teaching in the Carter Schools,where he became principal,coach and then superintendent of schools.Following Carter he finished his Oklahoma teaching career in the Panhandle at the Plainview School of Oklahoma.He then began teaching at Hartley,Texas where he taught until his health forced his retirement in 1974.He then moved back to Carter in 1985 where he had lived since.Lockett was married to Mary Lou JACKS on May 22,1961 in Reno,Nev.,and was a member of the Carter Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife Mary Lou of the Carter home;also 9 childrenJimmy BACK and his wife Teresa of Houston,Texas;Doris and her husband Ronald SMITH of Lawton;Barbara and her husband Bill DALTON of Lawton;Dixie and her husband Donnie SMITH of Tulsa;Larry BACK of Weatherford;Melba BACK of Muskogee;David BACK and his wife Carol of Claremore;Ken REED and his wife Bobbie of Chickasha and Cheryl REED of Amarillo;19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.One sister,Lorraine CLARK of Carter;one niece,Jan JASAY of Carter and one nephew,Gene Calvin CLARK of Princeton,Calif.
