(Bob) Bassett, 57, well known blacksmith and farmer died suddenly in his blacksmith shop on South Main street at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon following a stroke of apoplexy which struck him as he was about his daily work in the blacksmith shop. Bassett had long suffered the effects of high blood pressure it was said. Thursday 13 August 1931, Erick Beckham County Democrat Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock from the First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. S. N. Wilson and Rev. W. A. Roberts. Interment will be in Texola Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree Funeral Home. ----- Mr. J. R. Bassett was born December 19th, 1873 in Barry County Missouri and moved from there to the Indian Territory at the age of 15 years. He was converted and joined the old Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 1905. He was married to Miss Lydia Graves at Lexington, Oklahoma, August 7th, 1894. To this union were born 6 children, five of whom survive: Mrs. Pearl Bruner, Mrs. French Morgan and Mrs. Euel Baldock and Dennis Bassett, all of Erick and Mrs. Harvey Hudgins,, of Shamrock, Texas. One son, Ernest Hugh Bassett preceded his father to the world beyond in 1906. Besides these he leaves to mourn his going, five brothers, Mr. Amos and Alfred Bassett of Criver, Oklahoma; Leonard Bassett, of Carnegie, Oklahoma, Tom Bassett, of Washington; George Bassett of Missouri, one sister, Nora Akins, of Missouri and one uncle, Wiley Bassett of Carlsbad, California and a host of other relatives and friends. Services were held at First Baptist Church by Rev. W. A. Roberts, assisted by Rev. S. N. Wilson and Rev. G. R. Wilson, after which internment was in charge of Fatheree Funeral Directors.
