Beavers, local editor of the Herald, was called to Chickasha Tuesday, owning to the death of his mother, who has been in ill health for some time. Mr. Beavers will return next week. (7 Sep 1906, Berlin Herald, Berlin, Roger Mills Co, OK): The writer returned Sunday morning from Chickasha, where he was called on one of the saddest trips that a man can be forced to make in this world - that of the funeral of his mother. The grandest gifts of the Creator to man is the love and devotion of a good Christian wife or mother and nothing in life can be more bitter or harder to bear than her final laying away. Neither Christian religion nor pagan phylosophy (sic) can drive away the sting or deliver from the grave its victory. The fact that others are forced to suffer in the same manner is no real comfort in our own dark hour of trial, but even in the darkest hour, there comes the still small voice of conscience which whispers there is a God, and even though His ways be strange and dark to us, we know that God is good, and feel somewhere, somehow, sometime, these things will all come right.
