(21 Dec 1917, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK):
DIED.  Grandpa J. I. Bowie, of Port, died at the home of his son, M. E.
Bowie, out east of Port, Sunday, the remains being laid away in the Port
cemetery (Washita County) Monday afternoon.
Grandpa Bowie had reached a ripe old age and had been a resident of the
Port country for many years.  The recent cold weather, on account of his
old age and feble (sic) condition, is thought to have brought on the
illness that resulted in his death.
