(1 Sep 1916, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): Bert Bowie, the young son of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Bowie of near Port, was struck by an automobile last Sunday afternoon and was fatally injured. The car was driven by Miss Eicker, a young lady of Sentinel and just east of Port, between the town and the public school building, she started to pass a buggy, there being one or two other cars in the road at the time, and young Bowie rode up on a bicycle, the buggy it is said obstructing the view of the lady who was driving the car and preventing her from seeing the boy until it was too late to stop so he was struck and hurled to the ground with such force that his skull was fractured. He was carried to the hospital at Clinton where he only survived until Tuesday. His body was shipped back to Port for burial. The Bowie boy was only eleven or twelve years of age, and was one of the best families of that community.
