Robert E. "Bobby" Bruner, Sr. Funeral services for Robert E. "Bobby" Bruner, Sr. will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Erick First Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Carl Hein and assisted by Royce Todd. Burial will be Erick Cemetery under the direction of Fatheree-Albert Funeral Home. Bobby Bruner, a resident of Erick, was born October 19, 1925 in the Choctaw Community near Erick to Pearle Jeanette and Harvey Cory Bruner and died Wednesday [February 7, 2001] in the Sayre Memorial Hospital at the age of 75. Bobby graduated from Erick High School and entered the United States Navy in December 1943. After completing basic engineering he shipped out to the South Pacific in June 1944. He was assigned to Mine Assembly Depot #1 at Darwin, Australia where he supported mine warfare in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations for the balance of the war. After returning to the United States in January 1946 he married Archola Maye Martin on April 4. 1946 in Erick. He entered college at SWOSTC before transferring to Oklahoma A&M College in 1947. He received his B.S. Degree in Agriculture in January 1951. Bobby worked as a veteran job training instructor in northern Nebraska; Aircraft Mechanic at Hondo Air Base, Hondo, Texas; Route Salesman for Swift and Company; Technician at Chance Vought Aircraft in Dallas, Texas; and was a Field Test Engineer before becoming an Optical Systems Specialist for the Sperry Rand Corporation for the last 15 years before his retirement. In his job he supported the Sergeant Missile Systems at various locations in the United States and Europe, including 10 years in Germany. After his retirement he came home to Erick where he made his home where he owned and operated Flowers Auto from 1974 until 1982. Bobby also serviced as the Secretary for the Erick Housing Authority for 7 years. He was a member of the Erick First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, James and Kenneth Bruner; and one sister, Sadie Speaks Hogg. Survivors include his Wife, Archola of the home, two sons and daughter-in-laws, Steven and Paula Bruner of Lewisville, Texas, Robert, Jr. and Shanna Bruner of Elk City; four grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
