G. Carter died at her home two miles East of Carter last Friday morning at six o'clock, after a spell of Rheumatism and complications. She was confined to bed only a few days before the death angel called her home but had suffered with Rheumatism for several months prior to her death. Bettie Scott was born in Lawrence county, Tennessee, in 1845; was married to W. G. Carter in Cook county, Texas in 1880. To this happy union were born six children, three of whom died in infancy, the other three, J. D., William and Eugene, residing with them on their farm East of Carter. Mrs. W. G. Carter was a member in good standing of the Baptist church, and had been a consistant (sic) member of said church for the past thirty years. Her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. The Express joins the many friends of Mr. W. G. Carter, his sons J. D., William and Eugene, in offering said bereft, sincere sympathy and condolence in this their dark hour of trouble and afflictions. Its only a question of time when everyone must cross Jordans chilly waters of death, and pass to that great beyond, from whose born no traveler has ever returned. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
