Clancy, of near Kempton, died Monday of kidney complaint. His remains were entered (sic) in the Ural Cemetery. (18 Jul 1910, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Thomas Clancy who lived on the J. B. Prior School Section south of town, died suddenly from inhaling the fumes of dynamite in a well on H. A. Grays place. Mr. Clancy had been working on the well all day and in the afternoon put in a shot of dynamite, after the smoke had cleared away sufficiently he returned to the well and worked the remainder of the day, about 10 o'clock at night he was taken very sick, seemed to be choking, a doctor was called, but before one could be secured he was to (sic) sick to be relieved, and died Sunday afternoon. They had reached a dept (sic) of between 40 and 50 feet in the well and it is thought that the fumes of the dynamite and the black damps were the cause of his death. He has a brother of J. J. Clancy of Doxey and Boney Clancy who left here last spring for Hobart, he also has another brother in Texas. He leaves besides his brothers, a wife and eight children. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon and the remains was buried at the Ural Cemetery. The bereaved family have the sincerest sympathy of the community. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
