All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ DARE, JOHN R. (14 Jul 1916, The Carter Express, Carter, Beckham Co, OK): John R. Dare was born in Cahawba, Ala., Jan. 21st 1838. Went to Illinois in early life from whence he joined the army and spent several years in the war between the states on account of which he drew a pension from Uncle Sam. Bro. Dare was married to Miss America Ireland in the year 1859 who died in the year 1911, since which time he made his home with his son near Carter, Okla., from which he departed this life July 9th 1916, age 78 years, five months, 18 days. Bro. Dare was converted in middle life and united with the Methodist Church South, in which he lived a consistent Christian life. He was buried in the Poarch cemetery July 10th, in the presence of a large congregation of sorrowing relatives and friends. Services conducted by the writer, pastor of the Methodist Church at Carter. Bro. Dare leaves two children, several grand children and great grand children behind. Let us hope for a happy reunion in the sweet by and by. J. B.
